i also have not just one, but several computers and am confirmed diagnosed shizophrenic. Proof that we do indeed have computers.

At least i thought it was a computer last time i checked, i'm mad, i can't be sure!!

 

Ummmm.... you use a USB/eSATA/FireWire based DVD drive. I no longer put a DVD RW in my PCs. I have about 4 USB DVD burners.

 

Okay, even the major oversight of no optical drive or front mounted / accessible USB ports pales before this question: How do you turn it on?

This *is* a great solution to Media Center and Server PCs however, and I like that it's minimalistic and functional.

Nice case

If like when I removed the power switch from my GF's pc due to her just holding it down when she was finished instead of actually shutting down... you can set the pc to switch on via a mouse click or keyboard key or even a password on the keyboard, which is then setup in the bios (depends on the motherboard of cause, but quite a few have this feature).
So there is no need for any actuall power button. Although its a pain reaching to the rear if it does crash, thankfully not often.

Maybe you slide the case out from the back and turn it on, then slide it back in. Doesn't appear that the case is locked in at all. Just a nice retro styled PC case holder.

^^^That is exactly why you won't find this "project" in the Project Log section of the forums. I left open the chance that it might be good enough to attract sponsors but that went down the toilet when it was published in an unfinished state.

 

optical disk support could be done by simply putting some hidden hinges on the front panel.

 

Anything is possible. I was toying with the idea of converting an old rotary phone into an external optical drive. Have it sitting on the tabletop attached with a cloth-wrapped USB cable. That way I could use it for my Mad Men II project.

 

I like that idea, though you may find the old phones are expensie.
