Hi there, my desktops been acting funny recently, the overheating alarm keeps coming on and it restarts itself alot. I opened it up this morning and four of the pins on the power supply connector to the motherboard are brown, as if they've blown or got very hot. The corresponding plugs on the motherboard are also abit brown, does this mean new motherboard and psu??
Cheers for the replies, tried a new PSU but just kept turning itself off. Anyone recommend a good cheap desktop? building is out of the question at the moment just need something cheap to tide me over for a while!
The board is an Abit IS7, i built it 5 years ago and I can't really be bothered to keep fixing it all the time! think im just going to buy a cheap pre-built off ebuyer or something. My price point is max £400 at the moment, but I have a monitor and everything else already.
go dell if you must get a prebuilt or overclockers or scan even dont just buy something crap of ebuyer as they are really a poor company to deal with had alot of issues in the past with graphics cards from them and then got put on to a person who spoke very poor english and struggled to give me a return address
To the contrary I've always had great customer service from ebuyer and would recommend them to anyone.
Well, you could just buy the following if you need a super basic PC presumably you've got the bits to rip from your current PC to finish it. Athlon II x3 440 Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT (VGA) 350W Antec Basiq Power PSU 2GB Corsair Value Select, DDR3 £168 off of Scan. Lot cheaper than £400 and will have you up and running with a not too shabby effort! Edit. Or you could get an E5400 with the Asus P5KPL-AM iG31 and 2gb DDR 2 for £152.
