No, I don't reckon it will be as bad as DNF, I have more faith in Valve. It will turn out alright in the end, its just a bit frustrating that we don't know when.

Re Black Mesa Source, so its bug testing now... I'll look forward to playing it when it shows up.

It's about time for a new engine, but looking at the Portal 2 videos it doesn't look like they need a new engine.

The only thing it really needs is a updated version of the Hammer editor (Source's level editor)
which doesn't crash every 3 or so hours.

    1) Gabe Newell offers to kill himself if Portal 2 don't sell.
    2) All the world's gamers decide to boycott Portal 2.
    3) Gabe Newell says "april fool's mofos" and goes to work for activision.

3.5) Valve announces that HL2Ep3 is gonna be episodic. 3 episodes accross 5 years, starting with HL2Ep3Ch1 - Gordon Freeman's wings of liberty.
They then sign a deal with Activision.

Agreed, but given 3.5, it'd be a career move. :thumb:

edit: and yes, I ninja'd 3.5 in as an afterthought... :D

He'd also have to be a complete idiot.

Let's see, make a living designing innovative games while raking in a small fortune from the digital distribution platform your company owns, or go work 80 hour weeks for a pittance while pumping out regurgitated dribble year after year?

I'd give you rep for that, but I can't.

Really do have to try and get SS2 working on my W7 machine.

Oh no. Nonononononono. There needs to be a new Source. It used to be great, and still is functionally quite good, but as the years go on I can't help but rage every time I stop moving and slide a couple inches. Tell me, good denizens of BT, have you ever been running along solid, dry concrete and slid when you stopped? Or have you ever jumped in a certain direction, then kept jumping and maintained all momentum in that direction provided you kept on jumping straight up without any additional effort? Or the worst of all, have you ever slid down a slanted plane as if you were surfing?

It may not look like they need a new engine, but it certainly feels like it.

But more on topic, I honestly wouldn't doubt they try to pass off Portal 2 as a surprise. "Oh hey, we already told you about this... but now we're telling a specific date so it's a huge surprise!".
