Graphics Your Opinions on nVidia Graphics Card Manufacturers

Also the whole ATI driver issue is old. Their drivers have been solid for ages. Nvidia really ain't any better driver-wise. Either company is good. Personally I'd still get a HD 5850 over an GTX 460 because it uses less power. 6xxx series is incoming tho, so right now I wouldn't buy anything anyway.

Given it was nVidia drivers frying cards at the turn of the year this whole "Ati drivers are crap" defines dull/inaccurate/not currently true ...delete as you feel appropriate.

 

Never had any problems with NVIDIA drivers whatsoever. Got rid of my ATI card in December after a ridiculous number of cack drivers. BSODs, instability, game incompatibilities - the list goes on with ATI. NVIDIA is the way for me at least.

 

Yeah I used to buy XFX GPU's even though there tech support in the UK is crap and thats on a good day.

But they dont make Nvidia GTX460's or any Nvidia cards anymore so its a bit moot really.

 

I've never had issue with ATI drivers. I do usually let 2 or 3 versions come out though before I decide on what one to get. But I have had issues with Nvidia ones in the past.

I guess it all just boils down to luck in the end. Some combinations of components and drivers just don't get on very well.

Hi newbie here.

Just wanted to say that if you are looking at 460's I'd avoid the EVGA 460 SC (1gb , 763MHz). I bought one not longer after they became available as I wanted a rear exhausting card and it has good factory overclock.

The problem for me is the fan sound the card produces, it's noticeably louder than the XFX gtx260 black that I used to have (this was pretty much inaudible most of the time). It's not loud by any means, but the sound is kind of intrusive especially if the fans spin up to higher levels. This seems to be a problem other people have experienced as well looking at other forums, most people are blaming a cheap fan for the issue.

Other than the sound issue the card has been great, it's fast, overclocks (above factory) well and I haven’t had any driver issues.

One issue I had with EVGA was that I couldn't register the card via their web site, this got sorted out after a few e-mails with the support team though.
