Rant Why, just why would you ID me!?

FYI, for those suggesting getting ID: He had a provisional up until a few days back, and the DSA/DVLA (I forget which deals with the licenses) haven't sent him his full license yet

 

I'm still trying to figure out why a PC magazine is age restricted. That just confuses the hell out of me.

 

Probably the demo disc more than the magazine. Any un-rated/18 rated game demos = ID warning on the till system, if the retailer is more than just a small time news agents.

 

But they can sell car magazines with girls legs and tits hang all over them

 

If they're clothed, it's fine. Same rules BT operates. No nipple, no.. Well, you get the idea.

 

Yeah, I fully understand the reasoning tbh. But I've been going there for years, buying some for of PC related mag nearly once a week, 90% of the time served by her. She knows I'm 18+, she's ID'd me before, she knows I am. But she ID's me again, and I can't buy at all.

It's a fair enough system, that has to be some form of leeway when it comes to this, if I were buying alcohol, cigarettes, porn or a knife then yes, ID me by all means. I can cause damage to not only myself, but potentially other people. And for one you have to be 18+ to be in it.

I'm not going to hurt anyone with a magazine, worst that'll happen is I may get a paper cut. Ouch.

I reckon it was the demo disc, I never use them though, which just rubs metaphorical salt into the wound.

 

Unfortunately, once the request for ID has been made, legally, they're not allowed to serve you until proof of age is shown.

In an off license this includes everything. So if I ID'd someone for booze, and they couldn't prove they were old enough, I then couldn't serve that same person anything else in the store, be that sweets or cigarettes, although cigarettes wasn't such a big deal until it went from 16 to 18. Whether the same holds true for Smiths, or what have you, I can't say. It's been so long now I can't recall whether that specific part was Bargain Booze policy, or law.

 

when i was a college a friend got ID'd for a can of bass shandy, this was made worse because he actually worked in the store! and the woman on the checkout was deadly serious.

Needless to say he never lived that down!

 

No that's stupid, they don't have an obligation to ID everyone, just those that look 25 or under (generally).

 

Wrong. They can, and will ID everyone if needs be.

I already have an account with them, also need a letter from the university confirming a place. Took previous bank statements as well.

 

I rarely get ID'd these days. Funny thing is that it stopped when I got the septum piercing. I don't know of anywhere around here that'll do it if you are under 18, which is a good indicator for those in the know, but I suspect that most of the time, no one wants to bother the dude with the metal in his face and the angry eyebrows.

Oh the left is about as not angry as my eyebrows get, without raising them. >.>

 

How does it work with The Sun news paper then? That is not age restricted and that has nipples in it.
I am pretty sure anybody regardless of age can buy the Sun.

This whole ID/age business is just stupid and has gone from being done from a common sense approach to just a blanket ID request.
I am sure there was an incident in the paper about a pensioner being asked for ID when he was buying alcohol.

That to me is plain idiotic and no amount of arguing about law or any other policy this or that is going to make me think that is anything but bloody ridiculous.

 

Getting ID'ed for buying an effing pc magazine. Way to go nanny state UK. I mean I knew the UK was a joke when it came to that sort of stuff, but this is just extreme.

 

So, let me see if I understand this whole situation. In the UK, you have to be 18 or older to buy a PC magazine because it might come with a demo for a game that could be rated 18. If you try to buy said magazine you have to show a valid ID. But, you can make changes to your existing bank account with nothing other than a previous bank statement?

I'm horribly confused.

 

+ Plus a university offer letter (required to set the account up), I also need my card, pin number and a student loan letter.

Wasn't changing my account, makinga new one.

 

Yeah well, in Texas, I got ID'ed for a pack of Marlboros and apparently my PASSPORT (the same passport that got me through customs, immigration and homeland security) wasn't acceptable because she'd never seen one before...Which figures...She was mexican

 

I have a manly beard. I still get ID'ed for smokes. Bloody silly, I tell you.

 

I haven't looked in a PC magazine for a little while.... what the hell is in those things now, that you need to be an adult to purchase one
