Thanks mate. Yes it's definitely a lot of work and I didn't thought it while planning the build but actually I feel how much it is and still will be. :D

    Thanks dude.

The next update time will be on the weekend I think. Stay tuned. :thumb:

    Update #5

    Update Time. :D

This week I havn't done as much as I wanted, but due to a miss glued mainboard tray I first had to clean the glue markings and reglue the mainboard tray again. :wallbash:

Yesterday I started thinking about the mounting of the radiator.
The first thought was that I glue an aluminium U profile to the front on which I will screw the radiator blende.
But I hadn't had any alu u profiles here, so I did a few more thoughts.
At the end I begun building a frame in sketchup and liked the idea that I started building it.

I meassured on one of the old backplates the pieces I needed and cut the endings in a 45° miter way to have the complete outside of this frame black and the inner clear.

The next step will be the building of 4 more "mainboard spacer" for the edges where the radiator blende will be screwed on.

Today I only drilled the mounting holes into the sides. I marked the positions of the mounting positions...
...drilled the holes and mounted them to the case.

Starting to really take shape now mate. I must confess to feeling a great deal of sympathy for your hands in advance for all the polishing you will be doing soon

    Update #6

Thanks Loose - I never thought I would be nominated with it so it's a big surprise and I'm really proud of it. :)

    Update #6 - 11-Sep-2010
The last week I did many little things on the build, but today I was able to manage a lot of work. :D

    Side panel mounting

When I started working on the build this week I thought that it's not looking so nice with only 1 screw in the middle on 1 side of the case. Furthermore I recognized that the top was a bit hanging in the middle.

So I did a 3 more spacers with tappings to support the strength of the build and to give the side panels a better hold.

    Mainboard Test Installation

Later on I wanted to test the mainboard installation and saw that the spacers were 1mm to short or the io panel was mounted 1mm to high. And as the IO panel borders weren't 100% at the same high as the cut in the backplate I could move it.
Therefore I filed the cut in the backplate 1mm down and then it matched perfectly.

    Rad holding
While I did the mounting "spacer" for the side panels I directly cut a few more, but shorter ones, for the rad holding unit out of the plexi panel.
These were later on glued into the corners and were filed streight.
When I will have a rad grill here I will drill the mounting holes. ;)

Here you can see where this part will find his place later on:

    HDD holding
In the renders you see that I first wanted to do the HDD holder by alu angles, but I changed my mind and my decision. I wanted to hold the style and did 4 from 5mm Plexi in the shape of a piece of the jesterhead. :naughty:
I cut 25mm bars from some unused 5mm plexi and filed them straight and even.

Then I drilled 2 3,5mm holes for the mounting screws through them with a gap of 6 cm.

After that I cut the shape out of them, filed the new cuttings straight
    [IMG]

and test mounted some old HDD's to them
    [IMG]

and checked their position in the build. :thumb:

    Front Fins
Yesterday Evening after I got home from work I thought it might be good to start with the front fins this weekend before I have to sand and polish everything. :duh:

So I marked for a few hours many many half jesterheads to the sheet of plexi.
This morning after my breakfast I started to cut them out. It was a long journey but I have them all now. :)

While cutting them I had to notice that the jigsaw cutting blade was at it's life's end and the edges weren't clean anymore. (You can see that the middle of the blade was nearly black and burned out. :grr:)

After I mounted the new cutting blade it was directly cleaner and the blade moved quicker through the material then ever before. :eeek:
    [IMG][IMG]

After half of the sheets I cleaned up a bit and swept all of the small cut outs and crumbs together.

At the end I made 31 pairs of 2 pieces and had 9 additional full pieces.

    Next Steps
    My next steps will be:
    • filing the pairs
    • sanding the edges of the inner res parts
    • glue the inner res together
    • glue the inner res to the build
    • sand and the inner middle block
    • sand and polish the front fins

Thanks for reading and the MOTM nomination. :thumb:
Comments and Critism is welcome as allways - cheers.

    Thanks Fiyero. :thumb:

The blue is only the protection foil. ;) I'll see in which color I will light out the case; maybe red and blue and let them be switchable - but thats something for later. ;)

    Sneak Preview

I didn't done much work today. I only did a sneak preview of the front.
I sorted the fins roughly and filed
    [IMG]

and sanded 1 fin to have a preview how it could look like later on. I think when I use a smothier file - not a rasp - , will sand a bit longer with every grid and use at last a 1000 grid not a 600 and use polish afterwards it look very nice.

Here you can see it sanded one compared to the other ones.
