Just gone through the thread, firstly, it's a lovely bit of craftsmanship. I was thinking through the thread that boxing it in with clear plexi would give it the air of a scientific instrument so right now i'm thinking it looks fantastic. Unfortunately I can't offer any advice on your current predicament with the heatsink, but i'm looking forward to the next update.

The Noctua fan won't fit (25mm) between the H/S and the first RAM stick, so I hunted
through my parts box and found some low profile fans. These are only 80mm, so I
    thought two would be needed.

There are plenty of imperfections in this build but I can't live with this one.:dremel:

    Thanks Moriarty.

Had enough time today to make the last two pieces of the cover.:dremel:

First the bottom piece. The back part needs to be left open for the PSU to breathe.

And the framing piece for the back.

Yeah it's a box:rolleyes: But hopefully an interesting box.

    Back soon. :)

A box enrobed in mystery and steeped in great wonder and majesty. A box of might, of power and of luxury.
A box, in short, of the most pure form of WIN

At the beginning I didn't thought it would go this way, but it's awesome and you still see the pure awesomeness of the craftsmanship on the alu. :thumb:

I feel awkward reading all these compliments about Oldnewby's box.:worried:

There's something you could try to get rid of the 'box' issue. Add something complex and aluminum to the big plexi sheet. -possibly a cutout wrapping around a corner. It would be cool because it would add to the 'floating metal' motif.:D:D:D

Looks great! I would be so paranoid of scratching it I wouldn't be able to breath.

Hmph. I never liked boxes, and that's probably not going to change. I'll hold my breath though, see what you come up with. You had me in your bed up until the acrylic box showed up :baby:.

I love the look of it & expect it will look even better once hardware is installed thanks to all the awesome wire management bits, can only imagine how difficult that bottom, front & back piece were to make fit as good as you have, the only 2 parts I see as plain with this are the side & top & that is in no way a bad thing, every other bit is extraordinary which to me is definately interesting, love the fact you managed to avoid making a frame, many go for fancy form on the outside whereas this is fancy & unique on the inside while keeping perfect functionality for air cooling & thanks to the clear acrylic it will display all the fantastic work you've put into this.

Actually 1 thing that stands out to me is are you going to have an exhaust fan or at least vents at the back.

If a box was a bad idea for computer parts then that would mean every case manufacturer is doing it wrong, I mean all computer parts are straight & square in some form so fighting that form creates a bigger than necessary case, seriously oldnewb it's beautiful, should be an emoticon for 2 thumbs up because 1 thumb just doesn't cut it anymore :D.

I'd love to make a frameless case like this some day, sooooo freaking awesome :thumb:.

    Thanks a lot guys. :thumb:

The pile on the left is mostly from CX1, but there is more outside.

I think there is enough here for the next two or more builds. :p

    Thanks mate. :)

    Thank you. :)

Well, a few months ago I was thinking about thin strips of 3 or 4mm alu running along the top
and down the front to make a grille over the fans. But the fans are turning out great, and I
don't want to cover them, even a little.

Thanks Langer. I'm one of the thousands still waiting for progress on PCU. :D

Thanks, and already done it. :waah:

Haha, well, it was a nice relationship while it lasted.

    Haha, thanks. :)

I think flame polishing was not a good idea. :wallbash:

Oh well, it didn't take too long to make another.

Marking, cutting and filing is a doddle compared to gluing. This has to be one of the most
nerve racking things I've had to do on this project. :worried:

Thanks Waynio., :thumb: There won't be any fan at the back, but naturally air flow
    will be preserved. ;)

    Back soon. ;)
