So judging by the PCI-E connector, when viewed on my 19" screen this looks about life sized, so may be 230mm long?

I would say so. I guess we will be waiting for the results of the HD6950, HD6970, and HD6990 as these cards will be the successor of the HD5800 series.

The 6850/6870 could be the card to replace my 4850 :D

That exact thought has been floating around my head the past few days :)
Depending on the price, it'll probably be one of these or the GTX460...

Especially since the 460 is falling in price.

The 6850/6870 look to continue the excellent recent AMD idea of very power efficient and low temp cards.

Guru3D leaks 6850 and 6870 benchmarks. Pictures inside!

    Observations:

    Vastly improved crossfire scaling.

6850 definitely beats 1GB 460 GTX, and is priced at £160 on OcUK atm.

6870 matches or beats 470 GTX, is priced at £200 on OcUK at.

Quick edit: Apologies for the lack of game titles on the benchmarks. They were from Dirt 2, Crysis Warhead, Metro, Farcry 2, MW2. They are also a mishmash from Guru3D's original review and their Crossfire review. But I believe you can probably get the jist :)

Think I'll be holding onto my 5850 for a while yet after having a brief look at those benches...

Wow! I bet they run cool and quiet as well!

I can't wait to see what the 69xx cards are capable of!

Great to see that they comfortably compete with the the GTX 460 & 470.

With the last-minute price cuts of the 460/470 matching these cards (you cann see the prices here, I'd say this section of the market just got a whole lot more interesting.

Competiton = win for us (apart from those who just bought a 460 or 470, unlucky chaps). :thumb:

Lookign forward to the slew of reviews tomorrow.

just LOOK at the crossfire scaling on the top benchmark (again, apologies for no game titles). 6850 crossfire matches 470 SLI and 5870 crossfire, and beats 5970. Thats for around £310. I'm sensing that could be my replacement for a 260 GTX :)

Did you read the article? Everything is being stepped up by 100. The 6850 and 6870 are the stepped up versions of the current 5750 and 5770 market. The 5850 and 5870 market will be replaced by the 6950 and 6970.

I'm guessing AMD just wanted to put 69 in their products as often as possible

    not me.

The difference looks miniscule to me.

Most of those benchmarks the difference is only a couple of fps. Which your not going to notice.

And as mentioned loads of times before. You'd end up with nothing at all ever if you kept on waiting.

I wouldn't call it kicking the competition when their down, more like watching the competition gain hope and start to rise (GTX 460)... and then coming a long and kicking them back down to the floor. :D
