So in other words they're so power hungry Apple won't use them for laptops?

Shame, imagine what a great laptop for Diablo 3 and Steam games an AMD MBP could be!

AMD seems to be leading the market in terms of technology, and not spending millions on advertising, like its competitor Intel.

Hopefully Intel will play it fair, and stop bullying its customers.

Fantastic news! Does this mean Apple are impressed with the performance or the price though?

it means Apple dont really care about performance, and have gone with a cheap option because their profit margins arent quite big enough......

This is a great move for AMD and a very good sign that their new CPU line-up is awesome.

If Llano and Zacate deliver what is promised and some early reviews are talking about nice performance allready, then it's only logical for Apple to look for a deal with AMD.

I must say I was expecting this to be about the next Air, MB and MBP, rather than the desktop machines indicated by the picture.

While there will undoubtably be a reduction in power consumption with little reduction in performance for the iMac line, I can see buyers of the Mac Pro line getting screwed with increased prices and no dedicated graphics.

Am I the only one that sees APU and thinks "Thank You, Come Again!" ?

I don't want this to be yet another negative comment about an article, but where does it imply that Apple will be using Fusion APUs?
The slides that feature Apple products and logos are those that show AMD partners to analysts during their financial presentation, such as HP, Dell, etc. Apple is an AMD partner right now as they use Radeon graphics.

Notice that the featured products are those that use Radeon GPUs? They are desktops and workstations, and no laptops where APU might reasonably be expected to be used in place of Intel CPUs.

This is a story where someone has seen a 2 and a 5 and said "OMFG!!! over 9000!!1!one!"

    Link to full image: http://img.hexus.net/v2/pmason/amd/fusion/apple-1.jpg

As you can see, there are laptops, workstations, gaming machines and servers.

    this isn't good at all...
if we know Apple products we know that they always carry mediocre hardware whilst asking for outrageous prices, it means that if it's true, apple's just fishing for cheap hardware with minimal performance boost to sway their customers into thinking it's the most awesome thing in the planet...
    which it definitelly is not...

the problem here lies as Adnoctum said, in that they're showing desktops and workstations there... not the laptop market, which is where the APUs were meant to go in the first place...

The main reason seems to be that apple insist on including discrete GPUs in all their computers (perhaps because of OpenCL?) and Nvidia can't make chipsets for the most recent processors. AMD's all-in-one, single manufacturer system must be very attractive to Apple- more integration, parts that are designed to work together and lower costs. If I were Steve Jobs, I'd probably try to buy AMD... then they could have a completely closed hardware setup, and an X86 processor...

Neither. They just don't care. Apple customers don't understand about CPU specifics (they'll say the contrary) and pay whatever the current Apple tax is.

Yay for AMD having a win after so many loses and for Apple for pushing for an even higher margin!
