I have been a member of the Bit-Tech community for quite some time, and today I was visiting for my usual reads between classes when I was affronted by the A.C.Ryan / PlayOn adds. I understand that what is considered morally acceptable differs from nation to nation, and websites need to generate revenue through adds, but this is a bit far. The add is a bit much in my opinion, not to mention that there are 3 occurrences of the ad on the main page.

I remember when the adds started to become more prominent, and we were encouraged not not use add blockers, but with this most recent add the idea is being seriously considered. I generally don't mind the adds found on this website, indeed many of them are done quite well and pique my interest. Now I am tempted to block adds all together just so I can avoid having to see these things.

I have always thought of Bit-Tech as a more "family friendly" forum and while I recognize there have been many threads about certain individuals getting lucky or needing help with personal affairs, they are just that: threads. I do not have to look at them, I have a choice, but these adds are just there.

I thought the ads were relevant to bit-tech. AC Ryan is a company that makes products for modders after all. I dont see anything wrong with them at all but peoples opinions do vary and of course everyone is entitled to there own.

Even when they are wrong...................like you are.............................Joking of course

I do not have a problem with AC Ryan as a company, nor do I take issue with them advertising their products on bit-tech. It is the content of the advertisements that bothers me. Yes you could say I am prudish, but I would venture to say I am not alone in these opinions.

Ah sorry I misunderstood your point. Again I dont have a problem with it, I would happily look at semi naked women all day but I can understand why some people would have a problem.

I think one of the points/problems is that bit-tech has traditionally been a place where a significant proportion of the readers are under-18. Like M7ck says, I've got no personal objection towards it, but dfinitely understood why you might.

If you do resort to an ad-blocker, though, can you make sure it's just that ad you block, not the rest?

^^ This, just block that specific ad. Also, after I had a look at that ad, it really isn't all that graphic, just some side-boob and side-ass :naughty:, not like its full frontal nudity or even really something worse than what kids see on the tv all the time these days.

I love all that curvy, pneumatic, fleshy stuff but I have to admit to being taken just
a little aback at seeing it here. Maybe not the best idea bit-tech. I know you need to
chase income to survive and I know the readership here is probably mostly young,
testosterone rich males, but it is a very slippery slope. One day high quality tech,
gaming and modding site. Next day tabloid quality, lowest common denominator rag.
    Be careful. ;)

I personally think its well within tolerance, its quite a nice shot and doesn't reveal anything to take much offence too.

It would be allowed on TV without any kind of watershed so I don't see the harm.

I agree that this is NOT safe for work, even if it doesn't actually show anything. I wasn't a fan of the suggestive advertisement that AC Ryan used to use, but now this one is just over the top. In fact, I was going to start a thread here myself about this topic.

The bottom line is that I don't feel like I can now read bit-tech at work or around the nephews and rest of family. Please ask that AC Ryan use different ads for this site...

I am honestly a little surprised and baffled at these comments, surely its not more suggestive then your run of the mill shampoo ads?

    Not the point.

It looks out of place here. It looks tacky, cheap and for heavens sake, it's repeated three
times on just the one page!
I like looking at 'adult' stuff on those sites. I don't come here to look at 'side boob'. :hehe:
I'll change my bookmark to go straight to the forum index and skip the home page. ;)

While these ads might be fine for most kids that visit this site (this is the internet after all, much more revealing images are only a mouse click away) I can safely say I won't be visiting bit-tech at work any more. The images might not be too revealing, but they surely are not safe for work, especially since they are all over the place.

Honestly I think the standards of ads have dropped a lot since Dennis bought bit-tech. Between all those badly coded O2 ads and stuff like this there is no week without a thread like this. Before Dennis you'd just have taken down the ad. It's a shame really. If they'd allow firefox at work I'd have blocked your ads a long time ago.

As if your at work, then sureley everyone is an adult?

Well i know for sure, would not be a problem going on bit tech at work, (what would really upset the boss, is that work is not for looking at the internet, its for doing work.

This would far upset him more, now if it was lunchtime, then would be ok.

but i can see it may be a little over top for younger members, but i doubt it in the most part.

Just to let you know, we are reading this feedback and will make sure it reaches the attention of the ad team and the advertisers. This ad, AFAIK, does actually tick all the 'Safe For Work' guidelines thought. It was also toned down by the request of the editorial team before it went live. As you say though; we do have to host ads and it's not exactly pornography.

We will take this feedback on board and make sure future adverts are more palatable, however.

I appreciate the update (as I am sure others do). It is interesting to note that it has already been "toned down". While the add in question may meet the "Safe for work" guidelines in one geographical area, it may not necessarily have the same acceptance in other geographical regions, which makes the job of figuring out what is acceptable all the more difficult. My hat is off to Bit-Tech for the friendly and timely response.

I understand that many are not bothered by the ads, while others (including myself) are. As a side note, it is nice to be able to hold a civil discussion about this where all parties can understand the viewpoints of the others.

I think however, if you have seen this ad as acceptable or not acceptable, it just proves that advertising really does work.

Now what shal i buy from Ac Ryan? has got me thinking about some updates
