SketchUp Sketchup Components Collection (SCC) Discussion

Does anyone of you know of a working Sketchup exporter plugin that will export to either .obj or .3ds? I'm currently using this one, however I'd prefer one that will keep groups intact. This one is a nightmare for more complex models (as a mainboard).

I'm almost too embarrassed to ask for these MNPCTech case feet , but yeah, I'm asking.

 

That can probably be done. Though some guesswork will be involved, so if you want accuracy you ain't going to get it. The overall dimensions are listed but everything else will be estimated.



I can't see what is underneath them; ie the bottom surface of the foot. Guessing it looks like a black rubber disk a couple of mm thick??

 

Sam, I can get exact dimensions of those feet if you need them. I've got a set in the basement.

Also an estimation/description of the profile of those grooves would help. It is hard to tell from photos how deep and what shape they are.

 

I just had a look at the collection (awesome collection it is too ) but just tried out a motherboard model from the collection & wow it's a bit laggy & was about 20 times the size of my entire design in megabytes, does anyone else get this or is it just my aging rig lol, my no thrills models lack detail but do the job right & none laggy so here's my question.

Are these highly detailed models for use in final concepts only? or is my pc really that bad, I'm used to silky smooth rendering when designing with simple accurate size blocks I design myself.

Loaded up on their own they're ok for me it's when I try putting them into my models, bugsplats seem to happen a lot when I paste the components into my models.

Not to worry though I can get by without the models, just thought I'd give it a try , I haven't recorded my cpu usage when trying it though, I'm guessing they choke my cpu lol, Q9650 @3.8ghz.

 

rant warning

SketchUp only utilises a single core, and it's a 32 bit application so it can only use 3gig of ram too. And they tell us over and over and over again, that multi core support and 64bit optimisation won't do us any good...



So going to your bios and disabling 3 of your cores and overclocking your remaining core as far as you can push it will help a lot, but buying a dual xeon supermicro and a couple of quadro's will only help a little... Ridiculous? Damn straight!

rant acknowledged, but not by people that can do anything about it, go to the official blog or something...

 

I tried combining those three parts and pasting them into another file and it worked fine. A bit laggy, sure, but still quite workable, and I'm running an 12.1" ultraportable 1.6GHz Centrino with shitbox intel integrated graphics. You shouldn't have any issues with a Q9650!
