Well, I went to the LBS last weekend, to enquire about lights, and they had this -

So now the LBS is selling my Raleigh and I bought this Puch for £20 (well, £60, but the money went to charity so I consider the bike only to be worth £20... new tyres and tubes on it are worth about £40 in themselves XD)

Got cut up by a car today. The driver (a middle aged woman) pulled out of a side road right into me. Then she got out of the car to check if I'd made any marks on here car before checking if I was still alive.

The conversation went something like this:
    Her: "Are you okay?"
    Me: "Yeah, I'll live."
Her: "I couldn't see you, your reflective jacket isn't very good you know..."

For the record, this was on a fully lit road, I had £40 bike lights on with fresh batteries and an Altura reflective jacket on.

Judge for yourself people. After that she went off on her merry way, didn't even apologise for her mistake. Thankfully, I escaped with some cuts and bruises and the bike also survived apart from some scrapes.

On a side, if she had totalled my bike, is she obliged to cover damages as if I were in a car?

@dragontail: that is exactly the reason I use the brightest, most intense lights I can, and run them at full power if the sun is even showing a hint of darkening. Drivers seem to have a blind-spot towards anything of the two-wheeled flavour.

    Snow is damn fun:

And that's just on my way to work!

"It's a new fixed gear system, no need of any lock ring, as you can see. This one in particular is hand-made by a guy called henrik, the owner of a fixed bike shop in barcelona. he took a normal shimano Xt mtb hub, modified to allow the size of the 17t fixed gear. it's fixed to the hub with 6 screws. If you take a look around in internet you'll b able 2 find more about the tech info of these hubs!"

Can you explain the guys in the orange shirts with the powered bikes and their usage on the track?

They're on half-electric bikes providing a draft for the guys doing all the physical work. Iirc it's called motor-paced racing.

I've warn down the slick-ish tyres that came with my Trek and they are now skidding like crazy on London's roads and i'm needing some new tyres, and want a winter/rougher pair for the wear and tear of London manholes. I was recommended the Specialized Armadillo's... good call? bad call?

    Any opinions?

    Bike is a 2009 1.2 Double with 700x25's

Jup, they are called Derny's. Most riders team up with one they really like and only ride behind that guy. One of those Derny riders is in his 50th season.

By the looks of it, it's just a standard MTB hub, but flipped so the sprocket is bolted onto the disc mount (which would usually be on the non drive side).

What Cookie Monster said. It's a front XT mtb hub on the rear using the 6 bolt disc mount.

Phil Wood makes some nice off the shelf 6 bolt fixed hubs and cogs.

Edit: And Charge Bikes do a 4 bolt hub and cogs.
