I priced up 2 580's and 2 6970's. The cheapest on Scan of both brands was the 6970's, a saving of £250 (580's almost 50% more expensive). The SLi vs CF results were quite close on a lot of results, and the 580 was beaten on a couple ...

    Just saying ;)

Not technically true. The SR-2 can take a bog standard i7 9xx CPU but can only have one. To use two CPUs, that's when you go into Xeon territory: mind you, why buy the board if you're not going dual CPU?

Christ, how many moaning ATi/AMD fanboys can you fit in one topic?

AMD products, were they any good this year? YES but just not the best performing, price or quality.

    Close though.

What surprise? Name a truly outstanding AMD/ATi product released this year and Bit-Tech have already shown a better product.

It shouldn't be the case but unfortunately it is.

    6970 cf (£560) vs 580 sli (860)

well you can get a cheaper card that does tri sli or tri cf and will beat both lol thats why you should never use cf or sli results to prove out

    3 way 470s (£175 per card £525 total )http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-470-2-3-way-sli-review/8
    2 way crossfired 6970 ( £560)http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/powercolor_hd6970_crossfire_review/7

links to both cards tested on similar hardware.

noise isnt an issue and niether is heat

as all 3 setups are loud hot and require alot of power to work

I dont know about those motherboard mentions... I would have noted the Asus Rampage III Formula and Rampage 3 Gene (performance and mATX). The SR-2 is pure fail though, although I sorta agree with the Sabertooth.

I don't know if I agree with the Sabertooth recommendation. It's a great board, sure... when it works. I'm currently on my second Sabertooth X58 that died after booting once and there are lots of reports of boards getting out with multiple non-functioning DIMM slots.

I don't doubt the value but it was still struggling with the i3 and G6950 on performance and price. That's probably why they aren't on the list but still good nonetheless.

    Thank you!

There's a huge difference between being a good choice at a certain market, and being The Best of 2010. Plain and simple is that very few people wanted to make an AMD build. It was just a matter of necessity for those who can't afford an i5 750.

Care to explain why? The board is a technological masterpiece.
    No worries :) .

Something I've noticed: AMD/ATI fanbois really do seem to be more vocal than their rivals. There seems to be an unwillingness to see what every* tech website reports: Intel CPUs perform equal to or better than AMD processors at the same cost, with better overclocking flexibility. As for GPUs, I personally get the feeling that the 6xxx offerings are either a bit confusing in their market placement (68xx) or just underwhelming (69xx).

*No doubt someone will find a site proving otherwise somewhere on teh intertubes.

Agree with most of the review, except the 460 as best mid-range card:

The 460 was released in July 2010. the 6850 was released in October 2010. That gives the 460 around 25% of the year as the best mid-range choice. A strange interpretation of 'big part of the year'. :)

I'd have said both the 460 and 6850 were 'best of 2010'.

The main problem is people will perceive 'best' in different ways. Best value will vary from user to user, depending on their current setup and what they are looking to achieve.

    Nice article though.

*edit* i would be interested in a bit-tech review of this version of the 460 though http://wccftech.com/2010/12/19/galaxy-launches-singleslot-gtx-460/ still miss the single slot 4850....

Tbh it was the ATi cards that were best for most of the year, the 580 shouldn't of won but been mentioned.
