I' glad you found it to :) There will for shure be some serious milling when it's time to carve out the front. Got this huge piece of alu in my closet just waiting for me to bring it to the workshop :)

Well, just a 7kg piece of 650x200x20mm alu that will be milled down in a heatsink pattern with some holes and slots :). It's next after the sanding is done.

Well, been a while but heres another update of the work in process.

Im starting to see the end of this top and bottom pieces that have been haunting me forever.
The rough shaping is done and tha basic radius of the pieces are done. Whats left is the finishing wetsanding to get it all really smooth. Sanding down all those small steps I milled to the right radius took me roughly 10 hours all together. I started of with a file and when I got close to the shape I wanted I finished of with the "finger sander" as I call it. Not the biggest update of this log because all those hours of sanding don't produce a lot of good action shots.

FINALLY all the lines are gone..

Still need to cut away the excess material on the sides but you get the idea.

Haha, I know what you mean.:) Great work, but don't you have to make another of
    these for the front?
By the way, I went back and had a quick look through the log again. The ring on top of
the optical drive is particularly fine, indeed beautiful. ;)

Hehe I can see what you mean:thumb:. Regarding the front.. it will be made out of one single piece of alu and it will be flat with round edges and milled grooves. Therefore, no pain in the ass radius to carve out and hopefully I can use the mill one the whole piece. Theres just one problem. I think the front is too large for my rotarytable, and to make the round corners I think I will have to build some special rig using a normal hand router.

Well my updates havn't been that regular so that's probably why :) Thanks for the comment and sub:thumb:

Really appreciate the detail picts! From the "finger sander" as you call it, to the last pict! And that last pict is the money. Shows the feathered edges with gaps at the end to the filled product in the middle. Damn fine work! X100! Multiple reps to you.

Exactly.. from the side, the face of the case will have the same curvaceous profile as THIS persian cat.

I had thoughts about making it the same curve as the top but desided to keep it flat since a curve would probably make it way more complex and harder to do by hand.

Haha don't worry. I'm actually redesigning a new backplate for this project right at the moment, and I'm also trying to figure out the design of the case foot. So it's still in progress just that there isn't any machining taking place and not much to show. But updates will come in a near future for shure.
