    HITACHI Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 (0F12117) 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM

Only a few reviews that seem to give it a good rating. I know the deathstar reputation but it's $69.99 right now and I'm tempted...

    From one of the reviews:

HD Tune Pro 4.60 benchmark results:

    Read:
    Transfer rate: Min: 61.7 MB/s, Max: 143.2 MB/s, Avg.: 107.6 MB/s
    Access time: 19.8 ms
    Burst rate: 204.2 MB/s

Took about 25 minutes to write 125GB of data to the drive from another HDD. Looked to be about 75-80 MB/s as an average speed.

Today only for that price, while supplies last, thoughts?

Meh, mechanical drives are so last year. Who cares how fast they are? Its like asking for the speed of a moped.

In the late 70s and very early 80's unrestricted moped were hitting 60mph.

Haha bout the reactions I expected :)

Til I can get an SSD or the next next or next gen after that to hold all my 1's and 0's for under $100 mechanical is going to be this year, and maybe even a couple more. I had been looking at the samsung that was $99 (now$89) and the western digitals, but got a tad intrigued by the $69 price + $10 rebate and okay reviews.

Either way the upcoming build is likely to have a c300 boot drive, but I need to get some more storage since what I have is just about full up.

I've used the desk stars and never had any probs with them. Might be worth a go seems it's a decent price.

Ah well, seems they've sold out already. I wasn't really convinced on taking the risk anyway, 2TB is a lot of data to go poof which is why I made this topic to try and get some opinions. Maybe something a little more known for reliability will go on sale soon, even though it seems most hard drives these days have reliability issues...

Get the samsung F4's, currently the most popular 2tb drive at the min.

I got an email from a Samsung rep saying all drives manufactured after Nov 2010 have the data loss/smart write issue fixed with newer firmware. Scan have drives manufactured on Jan 2011 as per an email from support yesterday.

They are about £62 each at the min I think.

    Hope this helps.
