Just flashed the 5970, instructions worked great and were easy to follow. Thanks ! I'll let you know how well the card works on the new bios after some testing. I hope there's a similar flash for the 5870.

@True_gamer (or anyone who knows the answer)

I got a Asus 5970 Voltege Tweak Edition and after flashing one of your PreOC ROMs I noticed that everytime I enter the atflash command, when those Old Device ID, New Device ID, Old (something), New (something) show up, all of those New (something) are blank as if the system doesn't recognize the new BIOS on the Slave adapter (yes, I used the right 0,1 for master and slave). But at the end it doesn't give any error. Just the new info on the Slave BIOS doesn't show up.

And in Windows, when I ran RBE and clicked on Aquire/flash BIOS, then Analyze, I got this. Look at the BIOS P/N for the Slave adapter (Nr.1). It says pass. Is it supposed to be that way?

    http://i55.tinypic.com/209sxnt.jpg

And now the only Slave bios file that doesn't give those symptoms is the Slave bios (original) file I found on Powertech.com. What do you make out of it?

Hi, i have flashed my card, but now it wont start at all (already flashed with other bios, bios from powercolor, etc). Do i have to restart when i flash the first adapter ? or just in the second time ?
Do you think the card is really dead ?
    Thanks

    I have now 2 x5970 and 2x5870.
    5870 works fine on 950/1000
and on my 5970 i have flashed 950/1200 (1 page bios)
what i dont understand, 1 5970 is working fine on 950/1200 950/1200 on dual gpu's
but the other 1 is only working like this 850/1200 950/1200
    when i try 900/1200 950/1200 it hangs
    or

    950/1200 950/1200=hangs
    900/1200 900/1200=working fine
    850/1200 950/1200= working fine
but when i go above 880 on 1 gpu (the other 950) it will begin hanging.?? why i dont understand.

my second 5970 is working fine on 950/1200 950/1200
and truegamer friend i cannot down the memoryclock to 1000 on catalyst center.
minumum is 1200, how can i down the memory clock to 900 or 1000.
i dont need the memory, core is more important.
    Best regards

after working some time the videocard is warming up, now working 930/1200 930/1200
not hanging , can it be a coldbug ?

Sapphire doesn't post its BIOS files on its website. You have to email support and ask, and they don't always send the BIOS files, even if you register the card properly.

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum not to mention new to VideoCard Bios Flashing.

I'm having a problem regarding the 99% GPU Load Bug wich happens ever since Catalyst 10.11. I recently installed 11.2 wich didn't seem to have the problem untill now... 2 days later. During World of Warcraft I wanted to alt tab out of the game to check something when I ran into the 99% GPU Load Bug.

Now I read that a Bios update for the 5970 can solve this issue instead of going back to Catalyst 10.10e wich doesn't have this problem. But i'm all new to this bios flashing and i find it all very vague to find out wich and where the latest bios versions are.

I'm using the normal Sapphire HD5970 non-OC or Toxic Version. The current Bios Version is:

    BIOS Version 012.020.000.028
    BIOS Part Number 113-C00001-104
    BIOS Date 2010/05/19

So, I hope someone here can help me out with this. Because at the moment the only fix is going back to 10.10e Hotfix wich shouldn't have to happen if you ask me.

    Thanks in advance.

I had the same 99% gpu usage bug when alt-tabbing out of WOW with catalyst 11.1 and I have my asus 5970 flashed with the Original vbios 735/1010mhz from the 1st posting. I reverted back to 10.11 and am no longer having that issue. So.. I don't think flashing your 5970 will fix that issue. Although i do highly recommend the bios on this thread, it ended a year long battle with my 5970.

Seconding Itguy's post. AFAIK, not bios related.
11.2 has the same results while 10.10e is fine. (fun fact, 10.10e is actually newer than 10.11)

This still won't help someone who is looking for GPU BIOS files, which are not posted on the Sapphire website.

I'm assuming that the person is asking about GPU BIOS files, given the context of this thread.

Have you tried DX11 mode on WoW? Alt-tabbing isn't at smooth, but I didn't run into the 99% GPU usage bug when I was using 11.1.

    I haven't played WoW on 11.2 yet.

That doesn't matter. It's clear this is a driver issue then. Shame it has to take longer than 5 months to fix.

I used to have nVidia only which never gave me problems, so you can guess what's gonna happen next upgrade :)

Very strange. Did you re-download the file again and run it again?

    Cheers,

    Simon.

You only reboot after you have flashed both Master and Slave GPU.
You should get a cheap spare graphics card, so you can boot from that and be able to flash your HD5970.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

I would just stick to 900/1200mhz if that is stable for you.

Use the latest vbios in post 1 to solve this problem. (Make sure you clear all display drivers!)

    Cheers,

    Simon.
