Linux Minecraft; Official Bit-tech server

Jr you just gave me an idea! We could recreate a Transport Tycoon city in Minecraft. Maybe not on the survival server though.

 

I actually think this might be good for the survival server, the lag problems are caused (in part) by chunks having to be updated as people travel across them. A big rail network might help to shift people around quicker, it'd be a good thing for everyone to get involved in and work together for as well!

 

Waayy ahead of you... save file number 2 is taken up by this endeavour.

 

I was actually thinking more along the lines of the cities in the game, not necessarily the railways you connect them with. But flamin already has a complete track back to Old Spawn and i'm halfway back to my supersecret superbunker that's hidden in the big cave system under the old spawn.

We could make the first line public and see if it helps anyone, though we'd have to amend it with simple boosters instead of the curly ones for now.

 

The track back to old spawn... is that the one that starts under the town hall? I've seen the end of it but never bothered to see where it leads :S

 

Yep, that's the one, but as far as i know it's just tracks for now - no boosters installed. It also needs some simple stations on both ends, because right now the exit is through the co-op store's basement, or a tiny hole in front of my old house.

 

A hole city? But maybe some of the structures, the bitmaps of the buildings and other suff are quite blocky... only, they're 2d looking on the corner (is that even a comprehendable description), I don't know if that poses a problem?

oh FFS, I hope there isn't a griefer. Any way of finding out who was on the server around those times?

Being restored from a backup I believe

 

Investigations have been made by XM, but came back inconclusive. I had a suspect, who I think has now been banned.

Its no one on these forums btw.

We also found out that the old spawn had been torched, almost everything wooden at the old town was on fire.


So, XM is restoring the server to yesterdays backup.


We believe the griefing happened sometime after 4pm GMT at the new spawn.
And someone said that old spawn was all right yesterday.

Would be better if there was a way to password protect the server. And can't you protect spawn from fire?

 

Damn, that's a lot of work gone. Don't we have a more recent backup that's still pre-grief?

The IP isn't public so it's basically the same as a password.

 

General Adminy goodness will also be installed on XM's survival server as a counter. Nothing restrictive, just sensible precautions now that this server has been picked up by griefers (who will boast about their exploits). Too bad about the rollback, but it's got to be done. Nothing more important than the motivation of the community to keep building, surviving and logging in each night (or week)!

And lamers don't get to dampen that spirit.

edit: Peter, XM will work backwards to find the most recent one. Hopefully not too much lost.

 

If the griefer is who I suspect, they're not the normal griefer, just someone who wanted to piss about.

We don't know for sure who it was though, so I may be wrong with my suspicions.

There were three people on at the time we think the crime was committed,

one of which is the person I suspected.
Another was one which no one seemed to know.
Another was 13eightfour, which I assume is 13eightyfour from here?

 

Sweet. The smallest time anomalies can disorient me in a game like this.

really the only way to make the server more grief proof than it is would be to implement a white list..which would be a shame to do.

but if the IP has been leaked then a white list is the only way to prevent more griefers from damaging the server. it does have the added benefit that anyone can be given the IP with no repercussions....but it unfortunately means a lot more work on XMs end. id hate to add to his already large enough work load.
