What do you think of the new i3 ? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i3-2120-s-1155-sandy-bridge-33ghz-dmi-5-gt-s-3mb-cache-core-ratio-33-65w-retail Also, will Bit-Tech do a review ?
well its a dual core with hyper threading, 3.3ghz,3mb cache, onchip video (850/1100) no turbo boost and it's locked
Yeah, would like reviewers to put some focus on media playback benches if possible on the i3s too since this cpu is ideal for an HTPC setup. (no game benches please like the HD 3000 review )
Doubt they will be unlocked tbh. Intel wanted to move away from the sub £80 overclocking monsters like the G6950 when it locked the buses. If they need a chip to fight of any low end AMD competition im sure they will just release some chips with a clock bump.
This is bulls**t! So now overclocking is only for those with lots of money who can afford i5 and i7? What happened to buying affordable/cheap parts and overclocking them to get the most from your money?
Told you last year!! Search "Intel kills overclocking" Yes, Intel is increasing their ASPs and locking down their platform so only the rich can afford to buy their fastest chips. The G6960 was the very last cheap n cheerful overclocker. I don't think the i3s even have turboboost! EDIT: No. No overclocking. At. All. That is, unless you buy AMD..
AMD? Blasphemy! Its a shame intel have gone down this route however you can still get P55 and 6950s so jumping on the OC bandwagon is still WIN!
Hopefully AMD will make them think twice about their decision if they can finally pull off some more realistic competition with Bulldozer. No OCing??? What has happened to the world?
Its just a shame current AMD stuff is so deeply uninteresting. tbh the unlocked i5s are very cheap for what they do anyway.
Well exactly. I paid a similar amount for my i7 as for my now sold Q9550, it performs a lot better out the box, overclocks further with less effort & runs cooler. While I don't think Intel are being particularly charitable with their product offerings, I'd hardly have a go at them for keeping the i3 parts locked down.
This is a direct result of a lack of competition in the CPU market! Though in truth we can't complain about value for money since the SB are so fast even from stock.
If they do they'll charge $$$ for it. AMD need to increase ASPs even more than Intel to not just grow. but actually become PROFITABLE again! Without increasing how much they charge they cannot invest in future revisions. Despite the fact they split from GloFo as process tech becomes harder to do, FABs will eventually ask chip makers to "chip in" for the cost of upgrades, which again will cost money come 14nm node. As it stands, GloFo and TSMC are nowhere near ready for 22nm yet anyway!
Remember the good old days when you could clock your Opteron 144/146 past the average OC on an FX57? Or when you could get an X2 3800 above an X2 4800 OC.. Ahh. Those were the days. Cheap OC chips are what keep me going.
