Where do you begin to learn this ****? There's a reason everybody who isn't comp sci hates comp sci. It's because it's impenetrable - no beginner texts, no wikis, no introductory remarks or how-tos or FAQs. A field that prides itself on being indecipherable to the non-anointed, guarding its tricks like a jealous stage magician who knows that his livelihood depends on them being limited knowledge.
Almost cracked it, but my image is broken half way down... Edit: oops, copy+paste error. I've got a code now
Am I right in thinking that this website is just an advert for Offensive Security's slightly dodgy-looking "security" courses?
Semantics. Comp sci is hacking/cracking/cryptography for people who don't want a real job yet and/or like academia. My point stands: it thrives on elitist, privileged knowledge being unintelligible to ordinary people, despite not being rocket science in itself to those with the time and patience to familiarize themselves. The Bible had to be republished in plain English before people could see how much they were being played for suckers; I'm waiting for a comparable reformation to hit computing and make sense of it for normal people.
