Does it concern you? I've been going through and selling off large portions of my gaming collection over the past 6 months or so, and realised that I've accumulated more than I could ever truly conceivably use. Despite flogging a good half dozen consoles (admittedly mainly varieties of GameBoy's) and well over a hundred games, I'm still delving into piles of titles that are still wrapped up/that I've never played. The plus side being that some sealed titles still go for whopping amounts on eBay. My Steam account comes to a current total of 147, and I've not even installed well over half. So does it worry anyone else?
i tihnk you buy too many lol i have a small backlog of games im yet to complete but ive played everything i own. ive only got about 15 games on steam although maybe around 30-40 sat in a box from over the years.
I have around 90 games on Steam and I've played maybe 70 of them. I'll one day play the other 15, while the remainder will probably never be played. It doesn't worry me that much, because almost all my games are bought during the various sales.
I should mention that considering I've worked doing something involving games for the 8 years now, not everything I've grabbed has come from a bog standard till transaction. You should've seen the huge number of PS2 promo titles I had to throw out when I moved down to London! I still admittedly buy WAY too many though!
I think that's a large part of my problem. I spot, say, DiRT 2 for a bargain price on Steam, and despite having owned and played it on the 360, I still can't resist snapping it up. These days, the games I DO buy console wise tend to be traded in/sold once finished, which means my PS3/360/Wii collection only amounts to around about 25 titles.
Ah, but with Steam, a game is for life, not just Christmas! Joking aside, do you never feel the urge to replay an older title, only to find it's one of the ones you've previously sold? I say this because I'm guilty myself of buying, playing and selling Red Alert 2 no fewer than three times! If it had been a Steam game, that wouldn't have happened!
well with a wife and 3 kids my gaming time is severely limited so i have around 30 games yet to install and play through. Plus i still havnt built my new rig so most of them wouldnt run anyway My wife on the other hand has bought nearly every fitness game for the wii and has used them once or twice which peev's me off to no end, plus around 20 games were yet to play Also i have a 360 thats just gathering dust, ive managed to complete 5/23 games so far
You have too much money, every game I have i've finished at least twice. There must be something more productive you could do than buying tons of games.
Oddly enough that hasn't happened too often so far! I *think* the last one was picking up Mass Effect for a second time in order to play through as a complete bad ass. By that point the game was next to nothing to buy anyway which made it all the more palatable
Yes. I have done the exact same thing with Dead Space! God damn that game, I've bought it 3 times over. Now I have it on steam. Also, as someone else wrote, if I'd paid full whack for a game, then never played it, I'd be concerned, but almost all of my games were picked up in Steam sales, and as a result, if I don't end up playing them, its of no real concern.
Steam sales mess that up a bit. Often times a bundle with just two games you want will be the same price or cheaper than the two games separately, while also having a few other games included. Most of my backlog is from this. Away from my Steam list at the moment, but I'd say it's at 10+ games. All stuff where I've paid off the bundle in play hours thanks to other games, but still have an interest in playing the other games.
My backlog is a little bad really, I have 196 game on Steam (at least half of them are yet to be played)... along with 30-40 retail PC games and around 15 Xbox 360 games sitting in their plastic wrappers still. Most of my games are installed but I don't get around to playing them as I get lost in all the choices, I'll eventually get around to playing everything I own (not including my retro collection). I'm just a terrible impulse buyer, I see things under a certain price range and instead of buying lunch for that week I spend it on games and other entertainment. It doesn't have much impact on my regular spending money, but I imagine if I put the money into a pot instead I could have a really nice holiday by the end of the year.
That seems to be pretty common. Pick up a title full price and chances are it's purely down to the fact that you desperately want to give it a go, hence it's installed as soon as possible. But if you're only shelling out the equivalent of a pint for two games, you'll happily pick something up that you think you'll install on a rainy day. Only problem is, those rainy days are pretty few and far between with family/work commitments!
My backlog isn't too terrible actually, I've been working on reducing it in the last year. I can generally resist Steam sales, and I've played/completed all of the 80-odd titles in my Steam list. The backlog usually consists of a handful of console games, a bunch of handheld games (both PSP and DS) and then nearly no PC titles. I generally can keep on top of console/PC games, but I find that I rarely travel enough for the handhelds to be used, and it feels wrong playing PSP/DS on the sofa with a big TV right there unused. My biggest problem is that I refuse to sell games, due to the piss-poor amount you get back. Retailers like GAME take the monkey by giving you a fiver for what was a £40 title a few weeks back, and old PC games are worthless second hand on the whole. I just hoard - probably in excess of 300 games across all platforms, still in their boxes, in the house on shelves.
I never used to have a backlog but I've become a sucker for steam deals so have picked up a fair few games I never play through bundles etc. Its just too easy to buy stuff on steam and D2d they should really have a cool down period like you get on guns in the US lol.
That's a good point. A lot of current/last gen console titles I recently got rid of would have got next to nothing in terms of trade in value. The likes of eBay do tend to give much more realistic prices, but it's a hell of a lot more hassle. The only way to do yourself justice trade in wise is take advantage of the offers HMV tend to have. Usually means that the major new release you bagged for £30 online is worth £30 of store credit for the first fortnight it's on sale. Only problem is that forces you to rush through a title you might want to enjoy at a more sedate pace. GAME are almost universally pathetic in terms of trade in value. PC wise, I tend to pass them on to charity shops. Other than 'rare' titles you're lucky to get much more than just postage costs.
I built up a good backlog during the Steam sale but have managed to get through most of them. I have a few 360 and PS3 games to play as well. You know what, looking at my shelf I still have some PS2 games still in their packaging. If I am bothered to hook up the PS2 one day I'm sure I'll get through those as well!
I never complete a game in a fortnight - lack of time to do so mainly, but I also want to get the most out of a title, rather than bashing through the game and then getting rid of it. I also go back and re-play games quite a lot!
