anyone else got this Steam Guard update? https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8232-WSGZ-8021&snr=1_41_4__42&l=english i saw it, went and made sure my email is verified. and then restarted steam, nothing happened. restarted 3 more times, still nothing happened. under settings, there's a new status: "Security Status" is it suppose to be empty?
Don't worry too much about it, this is just for the technologically impaired who give out their passwords and click dodgy links.
I think I remember reading about this a while ago, I thought it was about some form of hardware-based DRM linked with certain Intel CPUs that prevented you logging into your account on computers which weren't verified (or something like that). So I suppose it's useless if you don't have a compatible CPU...
That's not made it in yet, it was in the FAQ... If you've already verified your email - I did, presumably when I got the frickin' account back in 2005 or whatever - it auto-implements, which it did when I logged in today. Seems like a neat and largely unintrusive solution.
Works fine for me and I'm happy to have it. I'm making more of a concerted effort to buy games on Steam. I love that I can buy a game and come back to it 5 years later without having to look for a disk or a cd key.
Seemed to work first time for me, restarted and its showing as protected and a little greenshield. Bonus, anything that protects the account I've paid for is good by me.
Its worked fine for me, but it is annoying to have to wait for an email to be sent before I can log on with a different pc. I disabled it because of the annoyance.
