Now this is just first impressions based on a synthetic benchmark.

Ran 3d mark 06 and only got a 1100 point (17350) increase over my 275 (around 16272). I was expecting a bigger increase and when I went and looked at others scores sure enough they are hitting 18500 and above at stock cpu clocks for the same cpu.

Now as I say I know this is synthetic but it still compares to others scores.

Do I have a faulty card? I have even changed my ssd to use the onboard sata 2 port rather than my rocket card plugged into one of my 16x slots but that just seemed to make the scores slightly worse.

    Any ideas?

Well, I'd ignore other scores to a point as some people lie about/cheat their result. Not only that, almost every review site seems to get some sort of super card that runs faster and overclocks further!

The only way you can really judge the difference is to play a few games and see if it's smoother. I'd rather use the inbuilt Crysis benchmarks to test the difference between the cards.

yeh wish I'd done a few more game benches before I pulled the 275, too eager :).

Think I might throw it back in and run gta 4, crysis and batman in game benches and see what sort of differences I get.

Damm thing runs well cool though, 25c idle and didnt break 39c while running 06, my 275 idled at 50c for crying out loud.

Synthetic benchmarks are irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the actual *usability* of the card.

Yes I know they are irreleveant but comparing like for like I thought at least would give me an idea.

You have to bare in mind 3D Mark 06 is pretty dated, so it doesn't really reflect modern graphic performance that well.

The 275 was/is a cracking card. I went from one I'd overclocked to a 460, which at stock ran pretty much the same speed until it too was overclocked.

Yeh I had that in mind when I was thinking of running it, gonna swap the 275 back in and do further tests just to prove a point, sure the card is good just wanna convince mysefl :)

    275 doesn't support 3d Mark 11 so gl with that as it's a dx 10 + min test

And the 275 would get owned if you did get it working due to testilation

I've got a copy of vantage so I'll give that a spin as well, already got some benches from the 275 stored.

I coaxed 19800 on 3dmark 2006 on my GTX 460 on a Core 2 Duo, the cpu clock made much more of a difference than when I oc'd the gpu...

    3d mark is just finicky.
Like for instance getting a way better score on 32bit OS rather than a 64 bit.

As has sort of been said before, 3DMark06 is massively CPU limited nowadays. You're not going to get much of a change going from one GPU to another. Vantage on the other hand, or a real modern game benchmark, should show a much more appreciable difference

Seeing as my 560Ti Twin Frozer made quick work of my BFG 280 GTX OC Edition - I dunno what you're doing wrong. It was such an enjoyable improvement that I went and bought a second one to make 580 owners cry (at $220/card it's cheaper and faster).

Who says I'm doing anything wrong, it couldn't just be faulty etc?

Quite possible I have something set wrong but all I did was uninstall the drivers and then used the latest from Nvidia

Doubt it. A faulty card typically has bigger problems than not benchmarking fast enough.

Did you run any in-game tests yet?

you have to compare against others with the same cpu/gpu.. otherwise it doesn't matter what the scores are

here's the orb.. can enter your own cpu/gpu in the search and see how you compare

    http://3dmark.com/search?resultTypeId=232&linkedDisplayAdapters=0&cpuModelId=1030&chipsetId=0

you can see my 460 with the same cpu (4th one down).. looks like some 570's and 580's finally caught up

that score does seem kind of low for 3dmark 06.. remember scoring over 20k

What CPU do you have? Are you running 3D06 at default 1280x1024 res?

I found the CPU has quite an impact on 06, but Vantage is more GPU dependant. I'm getting 22320 at default settings on 06 with my overclocked (CPU) SLI system. With the same CPU a 275 shouldn't be far off my score.
