Depends. I personally think that if you only have SATA 2, the Vertex 2 is the best you can get as it has high write speeds compared to other drives and pretty much maxes out the limit of SATA 2.
60gb vertex as a boot/app drive and a 30gb vertex as an app drive in my main machine. The file server has a 32gb onyx as a boot drive. Those are the three SSD I have. I am thinking of getting something in the 40-60gb range for my wife's laptop at some point. Next build is still probably about a year or so away, so I don't know exactly what I am going to target for that machine. I am hoping to go around 100-120GB SSD as a boot and app drive. I'd say I'd leave it at that...but small capacity SSDs are just so darned cheap used. Well, relatively speaking. I am sure I'll accumulate a few of those over time like I am now. I'll probably get another 30 or 60GB SSD in the next few months once my 60 and 30 are nearly full.
C300 128MB. Found it was the best speed/storage. Did have my Steam folder on it initially but moved it back to normal HDD (WD Caviar I think) and didn't really notice that much of a speed drop. Would never go back to a HDD for an OS though!
Yeah my steam folder is split between the the SSDs. Its a pain to do (okay not that bad). You'd think that Valve would setup Steam to facilitate splitting your steam folder between drives. You have to do a logical redirect to the other drive folder. Annoying, but it means I can have all my steam stuff on my SSDs instead of having to move it all to a spinning disk.
Do you mean mounting a drive to a folder or have you spanned your steam folder over two drives? Just curious as I know how to do the former but not the latter (if possible).
Symbolic links Its spanned over two folders. Basically I install a game, it installs in to the regular steam folder. I then move it to the SSD on the folder I have their and create a new symbolic link (I like to call them logical links) to this new folder back to the original steam folder on my 60GB SSD. A symbolic link is similar to a shortcut. The OS interprets the location as being within folder A, even though it is physically located in folder B. It is accessible through either the symbolic/logical link in Folder A or the physical link in Folder B.

64GB Kingston, running Win 7 64Bit and programs, no issues with space. Got my games, docs on a mirrored 1TB drive.
0gb drive, its so fast its as slow as a RAID 0 array with 7200rpm drives... I want a C300 128gb for both my laptop and my main rig though, stupid lack of monies...
Corsair 60GB Sandforce Drive. Love it to bits. MKLink is by far the most useful thing I've learned about since getting an SSD. If you don't like command prompt use Symlink Creator Using Directory Junction is best
