    Hi,

I've just completed my first build  (with lots of help from you guys) BUT when I turn it on it seems to turn itself off and on again a few times before loading the system. I'm not sure why but sometimes it works straight away, other times it boots about 5 times before loading.

Also, the system is only registering 4GB of RAM, but I have installed 8GB (2x4GB). It says I have 8GB in the BIOS but on Windows it says I only have 3574MB of memory. Im running Windows Vista 32-bit, does this only accept 4GB?

Do you guys know a simple fix to these problems? My head is still hurting from completing the build so I'm struggling to think straight at the moment!

    Thanks

Ok I'm not sure about your first problem, but yes you need a 64 bit operating system for the system to show and have useable more than 4Gb of ram

I have a similar issue to you whereas my computer will sometimes reset itself once or twice max before starting up properly. It only appears to do this when it's overclocked though, I'm not too concerned though about mine.

I'm going to guess you have a similar build to me then, just without the windows 7 64 bit?

I think the off on thing is the surge protection setting in the BIOS.

I havnt tested it thou to confirm, but that seems to be what its doing. 5 times is unussual thou. Mine normally go on then off then boots properly, sometimes it does a second on off cycle.

Not to concerned. As im pretty confident I know its the surge protection safety feature.

Edit: Bindi might be able to confirm being an AUS rep and all ;)

    Things to check:

    Latest BIOS?
What PSU and are you using and are all the connectors plugged in OK?
Are you running from an extension cable or the wall socket - is the power and cable reliable?
What slots are your memory placed in - the manual will tell you which are DIMM1/2. Leave your memory at the default 1333MHz for now. If your memory requires extra voltage, add it.
Where does it reset exactly - does it POST then reset or do it before POST?

    Latest bios.
    All connections solid.
I found on an Asus furom that it is an issue that will be addressed in the next bios update.
Was on tweaktown under the asus section.

Found that after writing that last post. Seems like it has somthing to do with unused drivers or the like

Im guessing it's non harmful? About to put together my i7 / P8p67 pro build next week when the CPU arrives.
Dont want my AU$2.5k to go poof!

Edit: any chance of a link to the thread at ASUS?
