Hi as far as I know we don't have sowing machines we only have lathes and milling machines both conventional and CNC or teach in. I work at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as an instrument maker.

Yeh I don't know how I will draw that but I will come up with a solution

Doubly curved Perspex...pretty cool.

 

Hi Finely I had some time to do a update.

I came with a solution to draw the outer line on the curved fibreglass. I printed a front, under and side view of the case used a scissor to cut it out. Made the drawing on a piece of hardboard and used a band saw to cut it out. Now I used the paper and wooden version to draw the lines on the fibreglass (that I laye'd in the hollow mold). After drawing the lines I used the same band saw to cut it out. I used this method to cut the front, back, under and the top peace because I can put them together and use the frame to draw lines on the side panels.

Used a Dremel to make the holes here is the front.


Also I made a spacer to connect the inner frame to the outer frame. As you can see the top is curved like the outer frame. Here is a before and after.

I wasn't planning on reading the full log, but this is so awesome! I can't believe the ultimate precision, and everything is perfect. I wish I also had access to those machines

Hi thanks for the comments and it is nice to hear that people take time to follow my log.

Well the surface is really hard but the shape isn't really stiff but I think it is all depending on the shape of the fibreglass product. I didn't find it hard to work with for the first time that I used it. Just make sure that the mold that you use is really smooth because the fibreglass copies every bump that is in the mold. This will just safe sanding and plastering time on the product.

Hi, thanks for the great comment's it is nice to hear that I'm doing well. It's been a while, but I got some new pictures. It looks like I didn't do much, but it was a pain in the ass to make all the plates fit to each other without deforming them. Also I glued the panels to each other with some UHU 2 component glue. Because the glue is thin and dries slowly I needed to glue 1 seam at the time. Also I needed to put the case under a 45º angel as shown in the picture. This needed to do be done like this, because the glue wanted seep away and by putting it in a 45º angel it didn't happen. I could start with sanding and plastering it and than repeating it a couple of times until I was happy with the results. I will be using a different type of plaster(thinner) in a later stage of the build.

The alu brackets got welded and a I sanded the weld ot make it look nice:

Pre fitting a MB with a old card and a dvd player. I concluded that the dvd player needed to be placed 15mm to the front, so I moved the mounting holes of the bracket:
