The back of this case needs to be on show some how, too good looking to be hidden , I've often thought some cases look fine enough without modding so this approach is a really great way to mod a case, pure perfection skip . I love how it just slips on the case . I'd be tempted to place miniture figures relaxing on the balcony for some shots .
Thanks Wayne! I'm trying to stay away from the dollhouse thingy as much as I can. In fact, every decision I make has to pass the "will that make it look more or less like a dollhouse?" question. For example...I was thinking of using skateboard deck non-skid material for the roof tops. That would make it look more like a dollhouse so it was rejected even though I still like the idea. The back will be a tough act to follow. lol I'm still going with my split-level cantilevered roof idea. It will probably be the only wood grain in the project. Trying to decide between teak and red oak. Thanks.
Thanks! I collect them and show them whenever I get the opportunity. ********************************************** Veneering the tabletops with teak. Finished the teak with teal oil. Finished the mahogany with brush-on semi-gloss lacquer. Painted the privacy windows and the bottom of the tabletops. Fitted the windows. I intentionally used small equipment in the case including a mini-ITX motherboard and a low-profile video card. The PSU is the smallest (size-wise) modular unit that Silverstone makes. The reason I'm doing this is because I don't want the equipment to distract from the case. It's not about what you see in the window....it's about the window. Thanks for looking!
How had I missed this?!? Whilst I'm not the biggest FLW fan, my training is in architecture - I totally love what you're doing. Just skimmed everything, will have a proper read later, but what you have seems to be a beautiful synthesis of just about every stage he went through, long tall proportions from the floor to ceiling glazed skyscrapers, the mass and depth of concrete, floating roofs, geometric design and the subtle use of planes to form volumes.
I know I keep saying it,but the detail on this is just amazing. The back of the case looks brilliant. I like you idea on the case being the point of focus rather than the normal way of, here's a window look what's inside, Well done on yet another MOTM nomination mate.

My audience for this project are FLW fans. Looking back, I think I should have stuck to a single period instead of random stuff I liked. Some of his ideas are easily translated into a computer case but others...not so much. Thanks for commenting! Thanks Jeff! I've been tempted to enter case mod contests without any equipment at all just to watch people lose their minds. If the rules assume a working computer then why not have some fun? I'm stretching so many rules with Usonian that I decided that was a fight for another day. Here's a dirty little secret about Usonian...the only thing I modified on the underlying Coolermaster case is removing the tiny little support tab for the extra PCI slot on the back. That looks awesome, it really turned out well. If it were me (and I'm by no means a pro) I would try to take pictures that don't show the power supply cables, as the ends aren't sleeved and they are kind of distracting since they don't blend in very well. That's just my opinion though. Even with them showing, it still looks great!
OK Thanks. I didn't really notice but then again...I wasn't looking. lol I think I'll just use a photo that has a conveniently placed reflection.
If you cast your mind back a while, case modding was just that. Most of it had some sort of hardware just to qualify it as a computer. It's all changed these days with every one going for high end gear, but you do have a valid point about presenting just a case.
