    Okay so I've recently watched:

Rome Season 1 & 2 - very much liked it.
Sparticus Blood & Sand + God of the Arena - again pretty good.
Game of Thrones - still watching, love it!
The Walking Dead - very good mini series, some poor acting here and there.
    Firefly - craptasticbrilliance!
Dexter - pretty disapointed with the most recent series.
    House - as above.
24 - recently watched through all 8 series, was a slog but generally worth while.
The Wire - is on the to do list already

As a hint Rome and Game of thrones have probably been my favourite of the above.

What else can you guys recommend?

I'd rather stick to the dramaish/actiony sort of side as opposed to comedy or horror.

Survivors was very good when it was on. I'd like to see some more episodes of it but I'm not sure whether there will be.

Lost? I enjoyed it, but I know some didn't. Currently £9.99 a series on iTunes.

Heroes and Fringe springs to mind. It's a bit messy storyline at times, but if you manage to keep track of Game of Thrones then those two shouldn't be any problem.

Heroes have it's flaws, but Sylar makes it all worth watching.
Fringe is messy. Very messy, but it's interesting to watch as you never know what will happen next.

Breaking Bad is also good if you manage to stand the ****ing moaning and bitching from Walters wife. (Does she have one single line in the entire series where she isn't over-expressing some sort of emotion??) I liked the series, but stopped watching because of her.

Think you can adapt to a western style?

    Deadwood. Absolutely brilliant.

    Other than that:

    Breaking bad
    Mad Men
    Boardwalk Empire
    Weeds

I know TV is rather subjective, but I am bit of a snob and wouldn't touch 1/2 of the other recommendations in this thread. If I think of any more I'll add but its getting late...

I currently watch Castle. It has everything - criminal investigation, action, humour. And Nathan Fillion. :). And Firefly references here and there.

I still recommend Boston Legal. It's just an absolutely excellent show.

Well the first 2 seasons are anyhow. The later ones become more pointless until they introduce Espenson.

You've got The Wire up there already, very gritty and real, with a good balance of plot and realism - I thought it was excellent and was disappointed it finished.

The same goes for The Shield, was was also excellent. Both must be watched.

Screw Law and Order/CSI/NCIS etc, they pale in comparison with the above.

Hate to revive an old thread, but just finished watching all 4 series of Breaking Bad...it's brilliant.

Without giving too much away, it's truly a work of genius how the main character evolves gradually over the 4 series.

    Go watch it!

    Next up:
    Broadwalk Empire
    Deadwood
    Mad Men
