Hi BT, I'm in need of a new PC desk and chair and wanted some advice on places in the UK (I'm based in East London) were they have a good range? The only place I can think of is IKEA. Does anyone know of any others? P
PC world actually have some good stuff, as do Argos/Homebase. It depends what you want - I use a dining room table for my main desk because it has a much greater surface area and higher build quality than the standard office furniture (it's solid wood as opposed to laminated chipboard) and it's worth maybe £140 but I got it on gumtree for £80 It's worth checking gumtree for people selling stuff locally - you can often find new/virtually unused furniture very cheap.
Hah! I was just looking into chairs yesterday, but found nothing worth shouting about. I am also curious about this.
Had the same dilemma. I just went to IKEA and basically chose a huge piece of wood and 4 legs. Then got a chair from there as well. Think it cost me about £80 in total and they are perfect. The desk can take both my monitors and the desktop PC. Bearing in mind i didnt want like a workstation type fold out thing. i just wanted a solid wooden table that would support my kit.
ha, same I use a dining table at the moment too (though it is laminated chipboard) so I know what you mean about the surface area. Unfortunately it's legs have almost gone and I think it'll collapse soon.. Surely a large pc desk exists out there though?
this for desk at least. IKEA huge piece of wood + 4 legs = £28 when i bought my one last year. not sure about chair, still searching for a comfortable chair myself.
staples is good for chairs i have an excellent example, my desk is glass and alu from Argos, cost about £120 but well worth it its lasted me ages
Yeah my main requirements are that I want a large surface area (depth, not necessarily width) and a good height so my arms are resting on an even level from my chairs armrests to the desk.
My requirements were exactly the same, and I found that the dining table provided the perfect width, depth, height and quality for my chosen application I recently bought a small filing cabinet/drawer combo which fits perfectly under the table and looks great
For a cheap but very solid build, you can always go to B&Q and buy a couple of kitchen cabinets, and a worktop. Mine set me back about £100. Then you can have it the size you want, draws rather than cupboards etc. I got my chair from staples for £145,with built in massager. Cheers, Simon.
Yeah, I admired the one Pookeyhead posted it in that magazine discussion thread although I didn't go for the same fabric covering as him as my kids would destroy it.
Staples have some nice chairs, i bought mine from there. i bought my desk from http://www.intercounty.com/office_desks.html bit more expensive than IKEA but in my experience the build quality was much better. (they sell some chairs as well)
I have an ikea dark wood corner desk with extension on one side. No idea what it cost but it's huge. I need a decent chair
