Intel, much better performance and they are more advanced than AMD at the moment. I regret getting AMD lol.
AMD - I support the underdog, AND due to me always being poor (kids) longer upgrade cycles suit me better.
intel, best performance at standard and absolutely biblically fast when overclocked, cool and not power hungry
955be is good and so is athlon x2 250 but for most other things, the i5 2500 is the best (and not that expensive!)
Intel - performance is EVERYTHING. I can't wait to overclock my chip but I haven't the time to faff around at the moment. You are the first AMD owner I know who has admitted as such! It seems that a few AMD chip users can't admit that Intel is currently leading and try to claim that the priceerformance ratio is better or some other argument.
Nothing can hold a torch to intel right now (coming from a user of the 1055t), I regret not getting the i5 760. AMD will always be there, and they will be considered a good budget solution.
I'd say intel are what I want right now, but AMD is what I could afford. Interestingly, and not by choice, I have never owned a Intel product. Except a laptop my band uses. Next time, I assume it'll be Ivybridge though... so that should change, by choice!
At entry-level and mid-level you can put an AMD system together more cheaply than you can with an equivalent-specced Intel system. Intel dominate the top-end of the market for sure, but AMD is the way to go for most PC customers. Probably not the sort who come to bit-tech, but then again we're in the boutique market.
For what I use my machine(s) for it doesn't matter, have a C2D HTPC and old 939 A64 X2 in my spare. My next upgrade will be either Bulldozer or 2011 and to be perfectly honest I'm not bothered about which is the absolute fastest.

Just because it's so obviously only a matter of personal preference and what ever happens, you CAN NOT change from one to another. It's illegal or something. (top tip: search "sarcasm" from the nearest dictionary)
love both really. my old phenom 550 was a stonking chip but then my 2600k is a monster. at the time my old 939 4000+ that ran at 3.0ghz was a flyer. suppose it all come down to what you can afford and this is what i make my decisions on.
I do like AMD's chips but I can never deny the simple fact that Intel is faster. Hence my Intel Based rigs of late. Of course when AMD was in it's prime, it was the greatest around. I have no loyalty to either, just loyalty to speed.
gotta be AMD for me, cheaper, almost as fast, what more can you ask for? nxt upgrade bulldozer yum!! used amd alll the way back to the amd k6-2 days. i dont believe that Bulldozer is going to take the crown in performance but it will be one hell of a performer!!!
neither as im not a fan boy my CPU choice is based on price/performance so i pick whatever is best at the time of the build within my budget and requirements my current build is an intel i7 920 but my last 2 builds before that were AMD because they were the best choice then. My bros new PC it will probly be a 955 as its a tightish budget
Currently Intel. I've had one AMD system in the past, a bunch of other Intels (P4, PIII, PII) and a Cyrix. I generally buy based off performance, but with a budget ceiling.
Whichever offers the performance for the money. And even though Intel systems command a little extra currently they still have the better performance/price ratio.
I always buy according to my needs and budget. I had 68K (from 1989 to 1994), Intel 486 DX2 100 (1994 to 1997), Cyrix 200MX (1997 to 1999), Celeron 400 slot1 (1999 to 1999, damn socket A / slot 1 adapter), PII 400 slot1 (1999 to 2001), Athlon Thunderbird 1.2 GHz(2001 to 2003, damn good chip in its time), Athlon XP 2000+ (2003 to 2005), Athlon 64 3500+ (2005 to 2008), Intel Q6600 (2008 til' now). I don't know what I'll buy next. I do lot's of computed and require good multi-threaded perf. i5 won't suit and i7 are too expensive for my use. Phenom II x6 would be a nice choice (or buldozer maybe depending on the price and perf). Motherboards are often cheaper on AMD side and the combo mobo + cpu .... You can have a x6 1100T and a nice mobo for the price of the 2600k alone. Again, when buying there're 3 steps - first (and more important) : What are your REAL needs ? - second : What is you budget ? - three : Select an homogeneous system (I saw too much people throwing everything in the CPU + GPU, buying cheap RAM + PSU + MOBO, resulting in a poor computer crashing 10 times a day).
Whatever chip holds performance crown I've usually brought when upgrading, I've owned both amd and intel and would not regret buying either again it depends on budget
