It depends on my budget, what i intend on doing with the PC.

Once i know the answers to that i can make an informed decision on which manufactuer provides the most appropriate product at that time.

I used an Athlon for a while, then when C2D came about i jumped on an e8400, which kept me going until i got an i5-750.

Whoever gives out the most performance on a given price point, I have no preference over either, I've had chips from both.

Previous one was AMD, now it's Intel. I sincerely hope there would be actually a choice to make next time I'm upgrading.

Again, as others have said, for me the brand is less important than which is most suited to what I want to use it for - intel is best for pure performance atm, but for a HTPC build that I'm currently working on AMD (fusion) has been best in terms of price, performance and power consumption.

All my chips have been Intel so far (E6600, E8400, Q9450, i7 860), Pretty much because Intel has always been at the top for my price point.

I always choose via the "best bang for buck" method! no preference either way.

    That's about 4 CPU's in about 5 years.

Little bit annoyed yes, couldn't have got too upset though, was my fault, so bought a Celeron something or other (single core Cheesecake!) and then got the Q9450 from someone here for a great price.

except back in the Athlon XP, Athlon 64, operton and early X2 days intel didn't even come close to anything AMD had

Intel has a good 2 year advantage over everyone else making silicon so they can produce faster and cheaper chips than everyone. But I'll buy whatever gives me the best single core performance once its clocks are topped out under water.

Well pointed out. AMD 'Had' a great line up that would annihilate Intel, but since then, AMD have made 'Good' chips, unfortunately, Intel have made 'Great' chips, and it's Intel i would recommend.

Really? You can overclock a SandyBridge faster than you can make a cup of tea! :thumb:

That question is like asking do you love pizza or do you love pudding?

You love them both, but you wouldn't eat pudding for dinner just as you wouldn't eat pizza for dessert.

You buy AMD when you want good performance for a small price, and you buy Intel when you want top tier performance.

That's the way i like to see it. ;)

    .... I'm hungry now :hehe:
