Displays New Monitor; 24"ish, nothing too expensive?

U2311H, U2410, U2711, U3011 are all the same quality

U2311H uses a 6-bit panel with AFRC
U2410 uses a true 8-bit with AFRC to reach 10-bit colors
U2711 uses a true 10-bit panel (hence the big jump in price from the U2410)
U3011 uses a true 10-bit panel as well.

The new U2412MH, is the one to watch out:
-> 6-bit panel
-> Plastic stand
-> Basic connection (like the U2311H): DVI, VGA and DisplayPort, you don't have any of the extra connections of the U2410
-> Basic monitor features, like the U2311H, you don't have any U2410 features
-> Basic normal visible OSD buttons

 

So it's basically a 24" U2311H?

 

Kinda. I forgot to mention, the U2412MH uses white LED's, and looks uglier.

I guess we can see it as a budget 16:10 monitor, which would make sense, as 16:10 is expenisve panels, so perhaps Dell cut corners (litterraly.. the corners of the monitor and stand are round ), to make it cheapest as possible.

Why is part the U series, and not the lower end P series is beyond me.. maybe because it uses an IPS panel?!

Just think about all of those people out there having to look at screens only outputting 6 bit colour and not 8 or 10....

 

But the U2412MH is 6-bit! (so is the U2311H, but at least the price is very justified)

WAIT a second, they increased the price of the U2410, it's not 600$ instead of 500$!
Well I am sure you can still get it at ~500$ after negotiating.

A 160$ mouse... and I paid 58$ after taxes (thanks to a store pricing error)

 

There is no mouse that comes close, even the later versions are inferior!it was £100 here 5 years ago but I got it for £59 thanks to a strange PC World order online and pick up in store offer

 

Price of a U2410 to me: £538.80 (around $880 US or $830 Canadian depending on which you're quoting). I love living here sometimes...

 

Where did you get your prices from? I think Goodbytes is quoting from the Dell website as you then get a 3 year warranty and panel replacement service (god I am starting to sound like him)

Amazon, Scan and Dabs are usually cheaper but you only get a 1 year warranty.

It seems to be fairly normal that the USD and GBP prices are almost the same (in terms of the actual number, not converted) for a lot of things.

Prices are
Dell: £538.80
Scan: £455.09
Amazon: £458.48
Dabs: £461.35

For comparison, it would have to be around £375 to match the new higher price of $600 for you

 

I nearly went with the U2410 a £538.80 but the U2711 was only £671.00... So I went for it

 

Still can't believe the Dell US website has it listed for the equivalent of £375 (actually £290 with the listed discount). Why does the tech world hate our poor little island?

 

Well they need the money at the moment so they need to make some sales!

 

So I just mentioned the U2410 to a mate and his response was (in short) "I have that monitor, it's awesome, BUY IT NOW!"

I suspect my mind may be made up at this point.

I look at Dell website. Which unlike the U.K, the price in other stores are the same or more expensive. Maybe 10-20$ less in good stores, but you can go lower by negotiating.

I don't know why prices in the U.K are high. All I can think about is that either your salaries are higher than in the U.S/Canada, so everything is more expensive.
OR
Most people go: "A 500$ monitor at 15000 pounds! SOLD! I'll buy 2!", so there is no reason to sale a product cheaper.
OR
Transportation is higher in the U.K, and/or have laws and regulations that makes it more expensive (higher taxes on the goods, duty fees, high taxes for Dell to be in the U.K, etc.)
OR
a mix of everything

Yes, i love my MX Revolution. I find it to be the best mouse ever made. I was disappointing when I saw the Performance MX, but to me the performance MX is still a good mouse. I got it for my computer at my father place. But I still greatly prefer the MX Revolution.

I find it shameful they removed the motor on the scroll wheel for the performance MX, the auto wheel mode switch, and use a rechargeable AA battery, which means poor battery life (3-4 days), instead of a lithium-ion battery. Well at least a rechargeable battery and built-in recharger via detachable mini-USB is provided, but still.

 

Unfortunately this would be a "next payday" sort of deal, so I've got another week to wait. I'll also have to convince the girlfriend that £640 is a sensible price to pay for a monitor rather than putting towards a holiday...

As far as the reason for the prices go, it's a combination of taxes and nobody complaining about being ripped off really. Historically our prices have always been higher than US prices for a lot of things. The only thing stopped us buying from the US generally is that delivery tends to push the prices closer to UK prices and the extra messing around if the item is faulty. I would add "waiting longer" to that list but I've had things delivered from Canada faster than from the next town over (sent at the same time).
