I'm with Dave on this one,

I got absolutely effed over by Steam. My account was hacked and VAC banned, they wouldn't un-ban or even check their logs to show that the IP was based out of Romania when I got banned, or that my profile was defaced.
I understand they can't just unban people, but I spent 3 months e-mailing asking for it to be taken higher and I had well over £200 worth of games on there which I cannot associate with a new account.

Due to this I wont use Steam. And I can understand why he wont use Origin.

Not the same but he can always buy the game on Xbox 360 and bypass the whole affair.

And before anyone comments on me being loose with security, I work in the defense sector and am very security conscious with passwords, I am certain that this was due to Steam being hacked a while back.

I welcome origin, its a light app, does not at crap you dont want, and its competition for steam who over price there games, (their sales are pretty epic tho)

I just used Origin to find a lost copy of BFBC2!

I lost my disk and box so used Game Key Revealer (great little piece of software) to find the key on my desktop, then put that into Origin and now I have the game on my laptop too, great stuff.

I'm not over the moon about having to run it but tbh I'd probably buy BF3 even if I knew it was riddled with trojans and spyware

Does anybody know of additional DRM that may be planned? If it's only origin then cool beans.

I think they want to use origin as the DRM like steam is, yes.

I don't see a problem with Origin. I pre-ordered BF3 from there, got early access to the beta and a free game for testing.

I haven't used Steam a ton but I couldn't careless what service I use as long as I get to game

I thought bf games were all about your score not k/d + w/l ratios.

That is quite sad. What they are trying to do is make it so that people who have more than one person play on a machine buy multiple copies. Although not a massive problem for me (the only other person who plays on my machine is my nephew and that's not very often) I am just getting a little tired of the not so subtle ways the publishers are trying to extract as much cash as possible from people.

I know this is just the way of the commercial world (I am part of this world myself) but I am starting to find it all a little distasteful.

Also, publishers seem to be moving to a postion where they can restrict the outlets where their games are sold, therefore removing competition and allowing them to put the price points wherever they like. This again is just commercialism, but again I find it quite disturbing.

Will I still buy BF3? I am not sure anymore - I have it on pre-order (from Amazon), but the closer and closer it gets to release date the less and less sure I am about it. Financially it is getting tighter and tighter (like everyone else) and I cannot buy the amount of games I used to. It is maybe going to be puiblisher attitude that is one of the deciding factors as to which games I do and don't buy.

Please don't flame me for this question, I am seriously interested: What's the big deal? In L4D you get only one profile per game copy as well as that one is tied to your steam acount. Yet I've never seen anyone complaining about that. In L4D you got your gaming stats such as won and lost games, accuracy etc as well. Sure your stats will not be great if you've never played the game prior to purchase. If you happen to enjoy the Survival mode your win rate will become really really low as every single Survival game you play counts as a loss, yet no one complains.

If my Cousin drops by I'll let him play with my account. He's the worst player you can imagine. So what?

Are you ranked by your win/loss ratio, or is it simply because you cannot have that one perfect account?

Again, I am geniuely interested and do not wish to flame or belittle anyone.

it's hard to keep up with good score if all im going to do is sit back and drive a car around.

i've never played L4D as much as BF games, so can't comment. when you've spent nearly 1000 hours in a game, you'll want the choice to have a good record of your winnings.

here's the thing, BF games usually are ranked by score per minute. and being and admin usually requires to sit in am empty server for a long time waiting for it to get filled. so obviously having an admin-ing account will help greatly. (eg, the CPC server)

I miss the old days of UT,Quake, CS etc
Back then you could actually CHANGE SOME GOD DAMN SETTINGS in your games and set it up the way you liked. Nowadays there is so little options available that, every time a big game is released, I'm terrified I won't even have the invert mouse option ...

I don't even care about having multiple accounts or not, I just care that we are more and more limited in our "freedom" as PC Gamers and that pisses me off

The lack of mod support is disappointing too, but i still believe the game is going to be amazing, and tbh I had no issues with origin during alpha time either.

I miss the good old days before every game required steam or ubisofts constant connections.

The days where you just bought the game n could install n play it.

Still gona get bf3 but i really dont like the whole origin deleting your games after x months of inactivity

Actually EA clarified saying that the clause was only there to cover themselves legally and they had no plans on doing so.

And i believe somewhere in a thread on bit-tech there's a similar clause in Steam, except they can do it at any point they feel like, rather than after X months.

People place too much emphasis on stats nowadays. If you remember playing with me and SMC when Black Ops launched, we were all fairly equal (although it's fair to say he did own us more often than not) but if you check his k/d ratio it's disproportionately higher than mine (although I won't prentend he's not a far better player, he's just not 2.5 times better :p).

(A flipside of the stats mechanics in BLOPS is that almost all my weapons have a negative ktd ratio since they don't include equiptment/knife kills.)

All changed with BC2. There were some stat whores in BF2, but it was nowhere near as big an issue for most people. I'm losing interest in BF3, I remember how excited I was for BF2 and I just can't summon the same enthusiasm. The destruction is basically either cosmetic or scripted, the single player will be good but short, and the online will have all the same boring crap the Battlefield community tends to like.

There's a rumoured Conquest 64 player MP map with jets going to be released this week. Anyone heard anything?
