I started a second play through of Dawn of War II tonight, was forced to exit the game so that GFWL could update. Played for a while, exited and then opened up the new GFWL client to see if they had actually added anything. Anyway, I thought the screenshot I grabbed made for a nice compare and contrast of the features and reliability of the two gaming services... I know it's all been said before but thank Christ Valve exist, the MS alternative is too dire to contemplate.
Its broken. A truly terrible terrible attempt by M$. Whoever was in charge of this project should be sent to work at AOL.
Section 8, DLC came with Steam sale versions, GFWL refuse to install it! it's the worst piece of software ever! it just interfere with your game rather than support/help. game patch? you'll sit at loading screen and i'll take over your whole computer to download it. saved games? it's hidden way inside a fail location and syncing never works. DLC's? buy it here overpriced or you'll never get it. GTA4's modding community have the right idea: Xliveless.dll. wish every other game has such active modding community.
I swear, I'm the only gamer to never have any issue, with any platform. From Fallout 3 to GFWL. +shrugs+
When steam first arrived many years ago, it was a total pain. Not very popular at all. But, they have sorted themselves out now and steam is actuall really good. They also so the best sales! Gfwl however manages to get me in rage fits with its stupid interface and intrusive nature. Dirt 2 and 3 are great games but the gfwl part winds me up.
I love Steam, the interface is awesome, it downloads really quick without freezing your pc and the Sales are the best. GFWL...on the other hand is like saying to someones butthole "Open wide" then jabbing some tabasco sauce where the sun doesn't shine.
GFWL annoys the crap out of me. In every game it's always problematic!! Pfft and you need to be logged in for it to save your games c'mon what if my internet is down one day! PS I like what I can see of your desktop wallpaper. Do you have the full image?
I suppose without it certain games would cease to function correctly, not to mention contracts, etc. Windows 8 is going to be heavily tied with GFWL (or just LIVE, rather) bringing Xbox and Windows games under one roof. It's already happening with the official GFWL forums being moved to the official Xbox forums, although the former is a pretty quiet and lonely place. I hope MS are not thinking of charging for the PC version of Live on W8.
On a related note, DoWII: Retribution drops GFWL in favor of being a Steamworks game. Shows that even developers see that it's terrible.
I always get confused why so many people have GFWL screw up for them, I've never had it do anything bad. It works fine on my system, never had it crash or conflict with anything. :\
to be fair, i like it when it doesn't ask me to update. Otherwise i get scared whenever i get asked by gfwl to update.
Never Ever had an issue with GFWL, Sure, previous iterations of it were clanky and slow, but it never caused a headache. Sam
