So they're sticking with battle log. No in game server browser.

I canceled my pre-order. I have absolutely no interest in this game anymore.

I'm still not sold on the idea myself... Did the alpha use the battlelog system to change servers? Anyone here got any comments about it if it did?

Yes it did and it worked absolutely fine. In fact I preferred it to how it was handled in BC2. Imo it's a step forward, being able to search for servers without having to load the game was great and the load times were no worse than going from the ingame server browser into a game in BC2.

Everything I've read about the battlelog browser is just like what Krazeh says. It's extremely easy to use, intuitive, and is actually -faster- to load a game up with than the server browser in BC2. They also removed all splash screens and publisher/developer logos from launching the game. You literally go from clicking "play" to loading the map the second the game opens.

I was on the fence about the web-browser based server browser but now that I really think of it, it is a better system.

If I wanted to play a quick game:
    Web-browser: 15 seconds
    1. Go to battle log
    2. find server

    In game: 1-2 minutes
    1. launch BF3
    2. wait to load
    3. log in
    4. search for server
    5. find server

I don't really see a major downside to it other than having one browser open or having to alt-tab to find another

Bahahaha. So over the top, everyone who has played the Alpha reports it works very well.

    Odds on you buy it.

At least try to be fair when making your comparison.

The two are very similar, and there doesn't seem to be any major upside to Battle log. The only time saved is from the removal of splash screens during loading, but those aren't necessary in the first place, most games could launch far faster than they presently do so it's hard to say that's an advantage for Battle log.

Although I do have to wonder, would one be able to alt-tab to Battle log while still playing and browse servers without having to leave the game? BC2 took away the ability to browse servers while in game, a huge loss in my mind.

Logging into Battlelog takes all of 5 seconds and waiting for BF3 to load once you've found a server would likely be exactly the same amount of time whether the server was ingame or not. The only thing missing from The_Beast's post was 'Search for server' in the first list seeing as he'd included in the second list and I don't think it's absence really made the comparisons unfair.

I'm sure i've read somewhere that it's possible, can't remember if I tried it during the Alpha.

I agree that its probably quicker than the in game browser (certainly the BC2 browser) but i have to admit im not keen on alt tabbing out all the time. especially for people with older systems who may be struggling to run the game anyway. do you think you could run it in the overlay browser?

Tbh if you don't want to alt-tab out to find a new server you can just as easily quit, it was very quick to do so and dump you back out into windows during the alpha.

Cancelled a pre-order because of the browser being web based. Next you'll be saying the performance on the ALPHA was terrible so you have no faith in the Retail Build!!

Can you run the server browser in Steams browser?

I doubt it, seeing as the game isn't even on Steam.

I don't see why it shouldn't seeing as the web browser is pretty functional and based on IE so surely you just need to go to the Battlelog URL?

This will only be useful if you can get the overlay to work though.

    Webkit.
Adding BF3 to Steam would make the overlay work, no?

although Battlelog will work in Steam browser, the plugin required to launch the game probably won't work on Steam because lack of plugin support.

you guys got to remember that a website based browser WILL update more regularly and any problems will be fixed faster than client-side patch system such as BFBC2/BF2.
