Just as I was thinking EA was becoming less evil recently.. they pull this. How much can they really get away with before people start to think enough is enough? I'm not going to stop using origin, as I'm a weak-willed individual, but hey, this isn't cool all the same.
I don't see what all the fuss is about, if EA actually go through with it, then it becomes something to complain about.
To remove it from the active servers and put into archive, to stop the active system from being clogged up with never used accounts.
EA is not earning any brownie points with the community IMO. Saying something like this right before a major release is like saying "Origin Cheesecake!!!111 btw here is a nut buster". +1 on hard copy...
Weird, just downloaded origin. Tried to log in to my xbox account to link friends from that. And I get a message saying : What the hell does that mean?
http://www.origin.com/uk/about So you already linked your XBOX account to EA account, which is now called Origin Account. Use your old login/password.
I am using my EA account login. I don't think I've got another one. And I've not linked my xbox account to it before as far as I'm aware.
I see what its done. From when I've played an EA game on my xbox, its set up an EA account using my hotmail address. So its done it all by itself. But that's not the account I use for everything else. Bloody stupid thing.
Not see why this should cause a fuss. They've left the original Dragon Age up and that had DLC purchased exactly the same way. + Same with ME2.
Nothing to do with Origin. It's Valve's who pulled it since they can't get a cut of DLC sales. Valve recently changed their T&Cs so any title that breaks this new rule gets taken off Steam. Old titles are not affected since they weren't breaking the rules at the time. Didn't Apple pull some apps because there weren't getting a cut of in app purchases, this is no different.
Yeah my thoughts exactly when I heard about Crysis 2; very similar to Apple's app store policies. Hopefully Steam doesn't go any more in that direction. I think it does work retroactively though, Crysis 2 had been on sale for ages hadn't it? Maybe it's when there's new dlc.
Just read another nugget about Origin's EULA over at RPS. Seems like EA is determined to crap all over their customers...
I'm guessing because it's no longer optional unless you want to skip BF3 for PC. They can make their download service eat infants for all i care, as long as i can avoid it.
It's not hard to avoid, you just don't install it. simples Also, they've responded already and "fixed" the T&Cs, or so I've heard.
This! How isn't it hard to avoid considering this will be the way EA plans to deliver all its software to you like Valve does with STEAM? No Origin, no game. Unless this is changed or ME3 will be available on Steam without any ties to Origin I can see me play a cracked version of ME3 after I've bought my retail copy. No interest in BF3, btw.
Well then you have to decide if you want to agree to the terms or not, nobody is forcing you to install Origin. If you feel that strongly about it, don't play the game. Out of interest, what part of the privacy policy in particular bothers you? Ah, the old "I've bought it legally so I'm allowed to pirate it too".
That was my explanation as to why EA's shenanigans went unnoticed before. Nobody cared because we had other options - now with BF3 even the retail version requires it. It's our problem now. Yeah, morally speaking, why not?
