Okay I have build a decent budget system but just need to get a GPU for it and that's where I need help. I was gonna buy the 5850 xtreme as it is getting great reviews and was well priced but overclockers have put the price up from £132 to £160 mark and when you add pp it's closer to £170. So it got me wondering if am gonna spend £170 on a GPU could I get a better one than the 5850 xtreme. So can anyone recommend a better card? Any help welcomed as I am very confused on what to do. P.S. I will be using it to game and my CPU is a amd 955 black edition with 8GB RAM. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=57.151944,-2.118600
Well, SCAN sell gtx 560ti's for around 170-180. which are faster the the 5850 xtreme and could be overclocked further. but they are nearer 180 atm so up to you really Scan: http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-nvidia/geforce-gtx-560-ti-pci-e-(384-cores) Bit-Tech review, look on the games graphs if you want to compare them:http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2011/06/10/sapphire-hd-5850-xtreme-1gb-review/1 EDIT: Once you reach 20 posts on here you'll also get free shipping with them which is quite nice
Seconded only if you have a decent case. The 480 is a monster that needs tamed. SO MUCH HEAT! Generally why I moved to water cooling...just to tame the beast.
It would wipe the floor with it but it does have it's downsides(heat, noise, power consumption and it's really long) In my mind the 560 Ti is the card that you can live with, and still play games with the settings turned up. But check your power supply is good enough as well.
Is the GTX480 really that more toasty than the GTX470? Surely not by much... I think it's all relative anyways. My power hungry 470 idled at 40C and went up to 90C in some games (and warmed up the living room in the process); I can't imagine the 480 would be much worse than that. In any case, performance comes at a cost.
How much better is the 6870? Because I was thinking of getting the 6870 HAWK instead of the 5850 xtreme. Would the 6870 HAWK be a better choice than the 5850 xtreme?
did the 470's go down at all? in the states i havent seen the price drops...you can get a 480 for the cost of a 570...but why the hell would you do that?
