If you decide to go with a separate back protector I recommend you give Knox Aegis a try as it is very comfortable and I don't even notice it when I'm on the bike.

Always sad to hear about bikers coming off without any obvious fault.

I need some knee protectors for putting under my kevlar jeans, any recommendations? I've heard Knox do some good ones.

I've got a pair of long Cross Guard knee protectors (these are hard armour rather then the soft rubbery stuff I prefer but I've not see any good soft knee armour that can be worn under jeans) and Cross shorts for the rare occasions I go out in Kevlar jeans. Both give a good sense of protection and are really comfortable.

Anybody going to the Brighton Burn Up this year? Ride from Ace Cafe, London to Brighton, 20,000 riders turned up last year.

I've ridden the route in my free time as I use to live in Brighton however lack of bike and time means I can't go.

If anyone does go be warned there are a lot of police out on the road during the event so don't ride like an idiot.

Ah yes, but you can ride about with an L plate for how much?

I was there last year, but it takes me week to get there and back (about a thousand miles each way) so not this year :D
Should have written up for the european iron butt awards last year :D Sure left like a lump of iron afterwards.

Haha, at first I thought it was realtime. Was initially mortified at your filtering speeds :)

That video really is a good showcase of bikes' ability to get through rush hour.

edit - posted this in the Road thread too, but putting it here for wider exposure, because it is AWESOME.

Fair enough, although I'd not recommend riding on L plates after just 1 lesson you still make far to many mistakes (or at least I did...)

    *raises hand*

I've been on L-plates for 4 and a half years. No accidents, only one near miss (within the first month of riding). I'm quite proud of my 4 years' NCB.

The CBT doesn't teach you enough to use the road system properly if it's your first encounter with driving, though. I already knew the road system in depth from sitting shotgun in my parents' cars for so many years. Probably would've taken lessons and a test otherwise.

Every idiot that can afford a motorcycle would be ramming in to on coming traffic. I think our average IQ of the motorcyclist here is lower, just my thoughts.

And if not with the bikers, there would surely be problems with the drivers stateside. Assholes in SUV monsters changing lanes without looking, and all that.

I know it's true because Family Guy told me so.

b_e's got a good part of it:
Massive roads with massive vehicles, a very scary place to be, even on four wheels at times!

The other thing that's gotten a lot of states, including my own, to decide on making lane splitting illegal is the difficulty in policing it. It's considered too difficult to create a concrete set of rules on just what's safe and acceptable and what isn't, and even more difficult to have officers on the road enforce it equally.
