Re: The warranty, while that might be true if the rules were strictly adhered to on both ends of the agreement - I have RMA'd two heavily overclocked & overvolted (to death basically) and lapped Intel CPUs.

All they wanted was proof of purchase, and the details on the heatspreader before it was lapped (luckily I had taken pics for forumites, so was an easy point of reference). I then boxed them up and they were collected from my home by a courier.

A few days later I had replacement CPUs re-installed in my system.

OP - Your voltage is fine, I used 1.5v for 5Ghz for some time without nuclear meltdown, although I've settled down for a much cooler 4.8Ghz now. I will eventually get round to lapping this 2500k too, only thing holding me back is needing to source some legit UK Shin-etsu to re-apply afterwards!

Sorry mate, didn't know you were ill/injured. Just make sure you come back with a bang. By this, I don't mean put 3v through and aim for 8ghz your new shiny ivy bridge cpu lol

1.5V? wow. Only took 1.275v for me to get 4.5Ghz on my 2500k.

Voltage needed increases rapidly after a certain point generally when you get to 4.8GHz ish (this is a guess as to where more and more voltage is needed). My i5 750 only needs 1.28v for 3.4GHz, but then shoots up to needing 1.38v for 3.8GHz.

Oh, I'm just curious as I'm doing a £1k build for a mate soon so I'm just getting a vibe for how far to push his OC :)

I'm personally waiting for SB-E or IB :)

a nice stable overclock on this chip without loads of voltages is around 4.6ghz
this can be run on the standard cooler as well, all be it the temps are fairly high but not scary
have a couple of friends who are sitting at this speed nicely

I'm cooling it with one of these, so I'm hoping to push more out of it, to really make my current CPU cry...

I must have got a dud, my 2500k needs 1.375v to hit 4.5Ghz.

I ran PRIME 95 for 12 hours no problem but the other day I was browsing the internet and got a blue screen so have dropped it down to 4.4Ghz. Very disappointed :waah:

I bought an OEM model from SCAN. I reckon SCAN must have took out all the good overclockers for their custom builds leaving me with a dud. I should have paid more for the retail version rather than OEM. :wallbash:

Picture 004 show how un-flat the top of the processor is. I lapped my heat sink a while back and lowered my temps 5C. I considered lapping my processor too but the wife threatened my life if I killed it. Im sure I would have achieved much better temps if I had done both.
