Sorry for the large interval between updates, but time is scarce and these parts are complex. I have been working but I'd rather hang on till there is more stuff for a decent update. Thank you zero. Ah, so that's what they are making. Thanks mate. I don't have much trouble with the countersinks to be honest. In places where there are many screws (like on one side of the intake for example), I start all the screws off first before driving them home just to avoid having to stress any of the opposite screws. Haha, thanks guys. Once the intakes were done they needed to be fixed to the frame. They also needed to be easily put in from behind the front assembly once the body is done. So some brackets were made to fix to the frame. These double as fixings for the mesh grille. And then some mesh was cut to size and the edges bent over for strength. I just couldn't find the mesh I wanted anywhere, so my desk was cannibalised and a panel removed for the greater good. And this mesh looks very nice. Then some front 'fenders' needed to be made. These were cut from some 1.6mm sheet. The fixing tabs were scored before a curve was put into the parts. And then a curve was put in to match the curve of the lower crosspiece. And the tabs bent over. And fitted. Then a rough drawing was made of the fin arrangement. And an angle cut into the front of the fenders. Although in my drawing the fins were to come off the curve of the front and then straighten up, I changed my mind and angled the fins inwards. This allowed the lower intake to be framed nicely by the front pads and also reduced the projection of the front. You can see what i mean by the cardboard model. So a template was made and the fins cut from some 3mm plate. Then some supports were cut from 8mm plate. The supports needed some slots for the fins. Then some notches were cut into the plates until they sat 'just right'. And I'm very happy with the result. The fin supports will shaped nicely and a drilling needs to be made through these to fix the fins. Back when I can.
