Ahh the good old days. Video: So did you have a computer like that in 1995? Hmmm.... it looks like that MechWarrior 2 was the Crysis of 1995.
Christ. I had a unit similar. P166MMX, 4.2GB HDD, some other stuff....... £1950 Meh, i didn't pay for it and spent hours on 7th Guest and its sequel, The 11th Hour (still got that somewhere.....)
As Grimloon says, it's beige! Don't know why, but for a good few years beige cases ruled supreme. So I'm not the only one who did that then . I think it still has a certain charm. I played it a couple of Christmases ago when perusing my old gaming collection at my folks' home. Also, PPC Cheesecake. I used to equip six or more on the large mechs and go nuts. Every so often a bug would occur where PPCs acted as a hitscan weapon. Mercenaries was also great - loved the addition of the AMS and full 3D card support!
oh man, I still have my beige box at home, running... but it wasnt a highend gaming machine, I was to young (a kid) and ofc my father wouldnt buy me one because of that silly thing called money . I still have this magazine we used to buy where I just couldnt stop reading and dreaming about a powerful gaming PC, it was a Compaq, a powerfull one with a Pentium MMX inside and 256 KB of RAM and 3dfx gaphics, man it was a beast I guess that's where all my PC gaming fever started
ahhhh what a year 1995 was. Life was so much better and there was so much to look foward to. CRT monitor with a screen filter PC's were so expensive then could not afford anything even though i tried to get my parents to part with £2k but they weren't having it
Beige was the best colour ever - no fights, as they were all beige! Seriously though, why did the industry pick beige? My last beige box was a Dell Dimension of some kind back in the PIII era.
nice! Maaan that 3000$ "Gamer's computer", was just not worth it. 1996 Best Buy: Even with a gaming graphic card, it would not be so expensive. Side monitor speaker for the win! Just radical! I wdoner why apple stop making their own printers. Do you think they still work with the Mac's of today? You know what, now I am really seeing how technology has slow down like crazy these days. :/ Games where cheaper too: Full 1996 Bets buy flyer: http://gregarious24.imgur.com/best_buy_flyer_september_1996
Modern Warfare 2? All true. I remember this game it was ok, no doom tho. The graphics are hilarious, I think there might be about 10 polygons on screen. Other thing that brought back a flood of nostalgia, he mentions an MPEG decoder card, you had to buy an add in card (on top of the graphics card) to play DVDs smoothly, what a joke!
You could have any colour you liked as long as it was, well, rather beige! Possibly slightly taupe if they were feeling a touch risqué The graphics are certainly poor by today's standards but the gameplay is still excellent. The degree of customisation available was unheard of at the time and is still uncommon today. Pete J, I do believe that you may be clinically insane - 6 PPCs?! WTF?! Clan variant ER PPC is 15 points of heat each! 90 heat if you group fire is an instant shutdown or override and coolant flush even with 20 double heat sinks! Good grief man, that's completely batshit barking mad! Then again that's 90 points of damage to a single location so anything other than an Atlas or Daishi is an instagib on a centre torso hit. Hmm...could be worth it but I reckon I'll stick with my medium mechs with 8 ER mediums on group fire and kneecap the suckers.
