Agreed. I like this one a lot. Looking forward to seeing it finished. It's a shame we don't see more projects like this on the forums.

Thank you nutman! Keep it up I will ;)

... and thank you too jeff!

small update: making of the roof

inspired by the Atari 2600 system I wanted some sexy horizontal bars across the hex field
    [IMG]

so I cut some bars in MDF...

and made this top piece... I will drill holes for the ball handle joysticks tomorrow. I will paint the roof in black I guess, not sure yet... I´m also thinking about making a little storage room for the usb wires, but I don´t know if there´s enough room inside. gonna look into it tomorrow.

    Very cool. :thumb:

If you ever decide to make another I'd recommend round (Pac-Man shaped)

ok, so now I had to go back to my 3D-sketches and se if there was any room for a storage. and there was :D a little hatch formed in my head

here´s the sketch / top view
    [IMG]

first I had to make the holes. as you can se on the sketch, I had to rotate the MB
a bit to the right so that the left ball handle wouldn´t touch the GPU.

for the storage I cut the roof piece with a circular saw. the 2 mm lost in material will be compensated by hinges in between
    [IMG]

this is the actual storage. the hole is for the CPU cooler.

small holes for small hinges. you shouldn´t drill 6mm MDF like that, it´s way too thin. but I did it anyway, in lack of alternatives.

I also had to remove som material near the hinges so that the hatch could be folded up

... said the wizard of skiiiillz. you sir, are soooo talanted. Your metal work is amazing. And of course, you´re a brilliant woodworker as well. Just finished your work log of "Cygnus X1" :jawdrop: I envy your hand tool techniques.

Ok, here´s an idea I´ve hade since the beginning of the project. A kind of artwork on the top of it all. A solarsysten surrounded by a floral ornament. Sort of a perfection/kaos theme. I aslo wanted the name immersed somehow. After a few days in photoshop I came up with something. I don´t know if it fits with the rest, but I´ll try it out... :worried:

The two joystick bottoms, facing upwards when not in use. Making it an ideal surface for something decorative.

    The printed sticker template

    Fit into position
    [IMG]

"Snus", a great swedish tool for multi-tasking!!

    After removing the final tape
    [IMG]

Painted with a darker deck stain. Nothing beats the removal of the template. What a delight

... and it´s ready for some sandpapering!

I also added stripes similar to the ones on Sputnik. For the retro touch. They too will be sanded down a bit to blend in more with the walnut.

Btw, I´ve changed the project name from R-Kaid-R to R-Kaid-6. Can I change the thread title???

    That just looks amazing!! :thumb:

Although a cigarette pack is not as usefull as a tool, I'm not gonna switch to dipping tobacco... Yikes! :eyebrow:

The project title; Go to your first post, and press "edit". Then use "Go Advanced" next to the "save" button. Then you can change it.

Just at hint. I run Win7 64 bit pro. I can only use "Go Advanced" when using the 64 bit explorer.
