    Hi My fellow modders,

I'm waiting on some stuff for my other build and I'm thinking it's taking upon 3 weeks before everything is in.

So I don't like to site still as you know, therefore something else has coming up. After my scratch Build the Lightning McMod"
I always am looking what to build next for a scratch build and it's nice to make computers for kids. Don't know yet where this case is going to, maybe an niece or nephew.

A cute little cardbox robot called "Danbo" also known as Danboard and Cardbo, Danbo originates from the manga Yotsuba&!, the brainchild of Kiyohiko Azuma of Azumanga Daioh fame. Faster than a jumbo jet and capable of launching deadly warheads, Danbo is a powerful battle robot that runs on money ;)

So first let me tell you a little story. In the Yotsuba comic, Danbo appears in the 5th comic, chapter 28. It is when Ena and Miura got a school project and they made a robot named Danbo. They made it from a cardboard. The idea was to have someone inside the Danbo, which was Miura, to make Danbo speak and move. But to have him move, you had to insert ¥100 and you could click a switch on the right side of his face to make his eyes shine. Yotsuba shocked when they first met in Ena's room, but made friends with him eventually. Yotsuba believed them that Danbo was a robot, without knowing there was Miura inside Danbo

I've seen the guy before in some nice photo's and was thinking "why not a build with this one"
So here,s the start of my scratch build " Revoltech Danbo "

I'm gonna use for the cardboard looks MDF 10/ 8 and 4mm, and most of the hardware is coming in his head
For this i'm using a Lian Li PC-V351 covered with MDF

    Hardware:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H-B3
    CPU: Intel Core i5 2400
    GPU: Don't know
    PSU: Coolermaster Silent pro M1000
    RAM: Don't know
Some fans and other little stuff

This is not a difficult build, but I think it will be funny and nice to make.

    Things to do:

    -Saw the MDF
    -Put it together
    -Measurements to place the hardware
-Search stuff for the connections arms, legs and head
    -Dismantel some parts again
    -Put the hardware in
    -Filling screw holes
    -Milling some cardboard box lines
    -Paintjob

    And..................It's alive!!!

    The beginning:

    Here's Danbo ;)

    The head

    The torso

    Arms

    And the legs

    And the Lian Li PC-V351

    The tray

And going to place it a little different then original

The Lian is coming like this in the head from Danbo

The arms are going to be able to rotate and able to go up and down/ For this I have used
    2 x postcaps

    Placed them like this

And adjust a treshold brace (hopefully the right name)

    Left arm finished

I'm going to make a cover for this just like the original
    Right arm ready to use.

Body and legs weren't that spectacular, so this was made pretty fast
Only need to lift the body some more

    And put his head on

My little rabbit is pretty pleased with Danbo

Just to show you the height of it, Danbo and my son

    And friends forever

So this will be his first night out. Good night

    See you soon :thumb:

    Update !!!

Today enjoying the sun and did some brainstorming. The ability to turn the head and tilt
I'm using an old plastic vise

    sawn a piece of MDF

    Vise on it

    Psu is coming like this

For the other side of the vise, I have a plate attached to the head

    Vise is coming like this

Using the handle, I can secure any position of the head

    Everything together

    And rotating

    Psu in it

    Holes for the cables

Closed the torso and make the hole to operate the head lock

And made the fanhole. There are coming more openings for power, switch and airhole

    And putting it al together

To let all of this fit I've made the torso slightly higher, but now fits perfectly.

    DANBOOOO!!!!!!!! :D
    Friggen awesome.

I gotta ask.. Are you setting it up so you have to put money in it to get internet?:naughty:
-Might want to add a fixed cord to keep the head from turning 360 degrees. Twisted cables suck.

    Update!!!

I just pulled the arm of Danbo to see how the cover is made for the arms

    Cover is coming like this

I also made the cardboard flaps

And here the hinge flap like the original

For the back where the mobo tray is coming I have adjust a of piece mesh panel

A little bit of bending and playing with my dremel

    And put everything together

    80mm Fans for the airflow

    Pics inside

    Space for 3 hdd's

And made strips for the cover. I still have to make this and do some milling to give it the looks of a top of a cardboard box

And Big Danbo almost ready for filling

    More to come ;)
