Scratch Build – In Progress CaseMod: Cellarette (FINISHED)

Sorry could not wait. The Fiddleback Western Maple arrived today and it is beautiful.
I ordered about 28 square feet, way more than I really need for this project, but I know I can use it elsewhere. They are 12 sequential sheets known as a flitch.



Here is a shot to show the contrast in the the grain between the tiger maple and the fiddleback.

Was working on the top of the case and broke the router bit making the curves. Be about a week until it comes in.

 

Broke the bit, reach in drawer and pull out another one, ... a week, we wait.

Your craftsmanship is very good, Pfaffen. How long have you been woodworking? I'm always curious about other people's techniques - when you're scraping do you prefer to push the scraper away from you or do you pull it towards you. I've seen both, and it seems to boil down to personal preference. Also, did you purchase your scraper or did you make it yourself?

 

Thats some nice touches, stay true to the theme.

Thank you... Been working on wooden computers cases since about 2007.
With the scraper, I bought it at WoodCrafts and enjoy it. for the most part it depends on the grain and where I am standing.

Well finally used the new bits today. Worked out great.

looks amazing!! I want to try inlay detailing some day soon... just a quick question, how did you make those curved routing tracks? I´m guessing that piece of acrylic has something to to with it.

 

Quizz Kid, yes, they did. the plexi with the hole in it was the pivot point for the router jig. I set the hole in the jig to 1 inch and with a pin in place and another piece of plexi to support the outside edge, made the semi-circle. Once the router came up to speed, there was very little vibration and it moved effortlessly. Just was careful to end in the grooves I already made.
