i just tried again last night with the proper pickaxe on two different spawners and still no drop.

the wiki also still says theres no legitimate way to obtain spawners....

on an un-related note, does anyone know of any creative way to access a floating island without having any physical connections to the ground? in the past ive always just used waterfalls and swam up them but thats slow. ive devised a hidden piston lift that pops up out of the ground, but it can only lift you 2 blocks high which means your floating island has to be within 3 blocks of the ground.

They way we have done this in the past is to create a powered railway that goes up above the island, and then ends in midair, shooting you into the air to land on the island. You need to line it up properly, and have a rail on the island to land on (even if it is only a couple of blocks worth of railway). You can make an exit from the island in exactly the same way as well. Set up a powered railway with a switch to trigger it, and propel yourself off the edge of the island on to a railway below the island, that takes you back to the place where you got on the rail to get on to the island in the first place. You can even make this into a railway station if you're feeling up to it.

Might have to come on to the bit-tech server soon to have a play around.

A Nether portal should do the trick. You will have to manually construct both portals because - assuming they are close to/on top of each other - the second portal will just link to the first.

Also the world move will reset the nether, so we will lose out magnificent kitchen! :eeek: It is in some ways a shame to be loosing the current nether - it had quite a bit of building going on.

Yeah, stuff like diamond, redstone etc is all way deep underground, as a rough guide:

    Sand is on the surface.
Glass is made from Sand in a furnace
Glass Panes are made from glass on a table
Dirt is found on the surface
    Cobblestone is found everywhere
Stone is made from cobblestone in a furnace
Wood is got from trees on the surface
Planks are got from wood on a table
Obsidian is got from putting water on a lava source block, generally underground

IIRC these are the main blocks, you can also get:

Bricks which are got from clay which is found in shallow water and made in a furnace

    Some Majour issues guys,

While trying to upgrade our Ubuntu installation to 10.11 I seem to have broken the mysql databases on the server.
I can't back them up, the minecraft servers can't read them basicly it's FUBAR.

I'm currently backing up over 500gb of minecraft servers and will be re-installing the server tonight.

This time were going Windows Server 2008 rather than Ubuntu as java support seems better and less server crashes.

Plus wanting my emails on Exchange 2010 :)

Downtime will be around 1-2days depending how quickly we can install updates, install the game panel, mysql, ftp etc etc.

All the map data and plugins are currently moving across to our FTP backup server at 1gbps so shouldnt take long.

P.s. This happens to me everytime with Linux I get my desktop set up jsut how I want it, install an update and it screws everything over :/ urggghhh.

Will post back with updates as and when they happen.

If that rig solely runs Minecraft, then you might want to drop Ubuntu and go for MineOS+. The main improvement is that it is a RAMDISK setup - therefore the entire OS and files are loaded into memory and all run from there. So the server can send clients data and the memory speed, not HDD speed. MineOS+ also has MySQL support, automatic rdiff backups (no server lag while backup-ing!) and even crazy stuff like Hamachi.

And if you do need help with Linux, send me a PM - I'm quite good at these things (running Ubuntu right now, with about 3 other distros. I also tried to build my own Linux once... :D)
