Case Mod - In Progress AzTtec - Added Keyboard and Mouse - Completed!

Yeah, those naughty seams, lol.

I can't really make excuses for those. I left them in, all over the place. It's really my only misuse of this medium, I think. But due to my time constraints, there's no way I can cover them up. I really wish I had known of a better way to use the balsa foam before I started, so I could have planned it in, but I've only got a few more days to paint it and call it done.

Hopefully, after paint it won't be as much of a distraction.

Yeah, I think that was the submission phase. Then, after voting, the top 5 got a case shipped to them to start working.



On with a couple progress pics.

I used a primer on all the metal painted and black plastic still exposed on the entire unit.



Here's a black(ish) wash coat that I applied to the entire project. It lays into all the cracks and low spots to really give them depth.




This is ick, and it's what I'm currently battling to hide. It's just an unfortunate choice of patching that I'm slowly trying to figure a way around.



Another unfortunate thing is the different hues of paint right next to each other in places like this. I may have to re-shoot it all one color and then work the whole area over, trying not to lose detail in the process.




Then drybrushing details.


And with different light.


And finally, as initially intended, I was thinking about moss, and vines all over it. This is just a tiny test of it. but I'm not sure if I'd call it over the top or not.





What does everyone else think about the moss, too much "realism"? I'm thinking about just making it paint effects instead of actual bits of stuff glued to the outside.

I like the bits of moss stuck on the case but they will soon die and it could just make a mess of the case so if you can recreate the moss with paint well enough then go for it.

The paint job is bringing this build to life more than I imagined, weldone!

 

Dude..... Just carry on what you are doing and I can guarantee you will win, that looks crazy. Reminds me of my 40k days xD

 

The moss is perfect. At a distance I imagine it is probably not enough to even draw your eye but it gives it a definite je ne sais quoi. Maintain the subtlety around the whole project and it will look beautiful. It's coming along brilliantly.

And to note, the moss is a fake product, so it doesn't die, thankfully. It is some kind of green foam stuff I bought at a hobby store.

But yeah, concerning the patching spots, maybe if you can only find a way to dry-brush-touch-up the patching, that would be a grand way to give it all even more of that old authentic look?

 

I really like the moss, have you thought about using the stuff they sell in places like games workshop as I sure they would do something like this.

You are amazing dude just took a look at your gothic church mod this is high detail on a whole new level to me .

It's seeing amazing efforts like this that inspire others to try to raise their game but now I have to think even more for my next seeing things like this forces me to think better so thank you .

That's almost exactly what I am using. The stuff I got was froma local hobby shop, very similar, just came in a plastic bag instead of a tub.

 

It's cheaper that way. GW charges an arm and a leg for all of their terrain modeling supplies.

 

I've been told green stuff in a baggy can get quite expensive. It looks good, though.
For the mud patched areas: Can you fake water runoff damage in those areas?
