What do you guys rate as a great office chair, for perhaps £250?

Fed up of having an aching back after a day in the office.

I use the Markus from Ikea, about £125. Good back support, height adjustable and very comfy. Had it for about 9 months and its doing fine

    The Aeron by Herman Miller.

Bought new they are definitely outside of your budget (and mine), but luckily there is a teeming trade in used chairs because they are so popular. Pick one up at eBay for less than £200,-- if you shop around. Get the "Size B". Size A is for petite girlies and Size C is for big phatties.

I'm also in the market for a new chair... the Aeron looks amazing, so size C it is.

Check the chart here to see if your frame is ample enough...

Another Ikea Markus user here. Got mine in June 2010. A couple of weeks back the piston started playing up, 5 days later a brand new Markus delivered to the door and the old one taken away. 10 year no quibble warranty. Fantastic service from Ikea and a really comfortable chair too.

Ikea makes surprisingly awesome stuff when it comes to human comfort. Their matrasses are second to none. I recommend an Ikea bed to anyone.

They are European sizes though so you can only use IKEA mattresses. Normal UK ones don't fit.

I also use one of these chairs daily at home, and my work chair is a Herman Miller Aeron.

Both are comfortable, however on the occasions I have a bad back, the Markus is way more comfortable.

I also like the extra height on the Markus, it supports your head when you lean back. The Aeron I have does not.

Ikea Markus owner here as well, although at work we use the Aeron. Personally I prefer the high back so I can rest my head a bit :p
