Pretty unlikely. From my understanding, new heroes are made from community contributions then tested before implemented. Besides, there's something similar to Demoman and probably better : Goblin Techies
The closed beta has been going on for months now. I've seen some beta keys go for $500 on ebay back when they were harder to get.
ah ok. i'm keeping this one on my radar. I had some fun with last stand in DOW2 so this should be good.
Had an email about this today, anyone else had anything in the mailbox? Not sure if its legit or not but seems to be from steam.
It is legit, I got an email earlier this evening and it's also up on the Dota 2 blog along with a comic they are unlocking part by part every day this week. I imagine invites are going to be going out maybe even by this weekend
Yeah, i think it's legit. I filled out a Steam Hardware Survey and then a Dota-Specific Survey. The latter was pretty rough... "Estimate your average Income/Kills/Deaths/Level at the End of a DotA Game". Ummm... I've not played DotA, only HoN and LoL (and like 3 games of HoN). I was going to put League figures but then decided against it and just made stuff up >.>. And then bumped my "Rate your average Skill Level" down from a 6 (LoL) to around a 2-3. And let's not mention the "How many DotA champs have you played with" or "Who are your favourite DotA champs". Bleh. Hopefully i'll get in because they want a DotA noob's opinion of the game ;>. + For those having difficulty, just Copy + Paste "steam://takesurvey/1/ " into "Run". Or if that doesn't work just google around.
For those with suspicions this it what mine looked like. Edit: so everyone who receives Dota 2 will be given two extra copies that they can hand out to whomever they’d like. You’ll find your extra copies in the Steam section of your Steam account’s item inventory, and you can use the Steam Trading feature to give them to your friends. Wasn't sure if this was posted before but awesome .
Yep, that's how mine looked. Managed to sort it after the steam update/restart and take the survey. No idea if I'll get in to it myself having not played Dota but like vbdswong I'm hoping they'll also be after some opinions from new players.
Same email arrived in my inbox today too. Haven't done the survey but from posts on Reddit it looks like: What's your average finishing level What's your average total gold at the end of a game Your top 5 heroes played And I think two more questions. Pretty basic stuff.
True! However, I would have thought they wanted newer players to try it to, which makes the questions a bit odd.
Indeed. What's even more frustrating was that all the questions were mandatory. So i couldn't even leave them blank because i didn't know what to answer.
yeah, they also didn't really ask about if you've played their competitors bar one rather vague question at the end. Personally I've played about 3 games of actual dota but lots of HoN and a fair bit of LoL, so just used those figures (for K/D e.t.c) and tried to guess which heroes I would like (based off name and equivalent characters)
I never played Dota or any of the other new ones so I lied in the survey and picked the characters I thought were cool from The International tournament. Still looking forward to this so much for some reason, must be Valve
A whole bunch of my friends got in after the survey because they answered immediately. I didn't because I only took it like half a day later.....so mad!
I've got three friends who applied. We're all big HoN players but none have played DotA beyond a handful of games so all the answers were just HoN stats or white lies. Just waiting to see if they got invites so I can bum off their extras. Sure that's not just conjecture? You might just be unlucky,
