Yes, PLS panels from Samsung. This is very new.
From my understanding (could be wrong) PLS monitors is a modified IPS panel, and the manufacture (like all of them that released their own panel or sub-version), says how amazing it is. I am waiting for more information on the technology, and more in depth reviews, with several models monitors.

PLS is not "better than" IPS - it is a modification of IPS and has advantages over e-IPS but is still in its youth... and for the record, Linus is no expert (at least not that I'm aware of lol). ;)

PLS seems to be more about viewing angles than anything else. There's certainly nothing wrong with 16.7M colours as it is sufficient in many lines of work to have complete coverage of the sRGB gamut. And, frankly, where people are working professionally in 10-bit colour, they generally get proper pro-grade monitors by LaCie, Eizo, Nec etc because for a numer of reasons they are distinctly better than the prosumer monitors (which can still be very nice).

23" LG IPS235V IPS Monitor just £125 from ebuyer.

Now there is no excuse to go TN. Literally no excuse.

    I got a good 17" TN monitor for £19.99 - that's an excuse. :D

Jokes aside, IPS is definitely the way to go now given the price... £125 is just insane.

    Sorry for the delay.

The reviews I read, suggest that the Dell monitor is a bit better. If you like to go more in details, perhaps a new thread might be more appropriate.

I have (finally) updated the guide for the TN and IPS panel comparison up's and down to be less bias, and reflect today's technologies.

Correct.... well... higher resolution and 16:9 instead, of course.
The U2711 and the U3011 monitor cannot be rotated in portrait mode.

One sucky thing about the U2711, is that it seams that the HDMI port is only version 1.2, so the max resolution is 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. This is what I read from report from users. I did not encounter a review site mentioning it. Also I don't know if the U3011 has the same problem. I'd be interested to get further confirmation on this down side.

Another side note: the U2711 features a 8-bit + AFRC like the U2410, while the U3011 is using a true 10-bit color panel. I used to say that the U2711 was true 10-bit panel, based on reviews, and Dell not giving a clear answer on the phone. But now, i have discovered via Dell forum from a Dell staff that the U2711 is indeed 8-bit with AFRC panel and not a true 10-bit. While I know it doesn't affect most people, I would like to say this, just to be clear. Sorry everyone for the wrong info initially stated.

I really like that I can use portrait mode on my u2410. Anyway so if I upgrade to U2711 it would really be a downgrade? And just out of curiosity what HDMI version I have (u2410)?

I don't know, but I assume 1.2 as well. I think you can push HDMI to 1920x1200. In any case most content on HDMI is 1080p in any case (PS3, Blu-ray (well for movies.. it's displayed at 1080p, but the aspect ratio is completely different, etc...)

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!
