After reading a few comments and seeing how most of the mods seem to be overwhelmed by all the spam/new posts and other stuff, I had a thought. A few of us have suggested expanding the mod team (If you think you should be one, you shouldn't be seems to be a popular response to this lol). Anyway, my idea. Given a few people on here spend a lot of time on bit-tech and are very well trusted members, maybe we could elect a mod ourselves? So we do some sort of poll, people put their names forward if they want to be considered and then the community votes on their favourite. The winner gets power for say 6 months, then another vote or whatever. (Or if they're really awesome, get to keep power maybe?) Obviously there'd have to be rules, like a 500+ non spam post count and maybe a high rep count, but it's just a thought prancing about in my brain at the moment So what do you guys think? (I won't be offended if it's the worst idea ever, I'm not known to be overly brilliant at new ideas lol)
Yeah - I do like the idea of elected mods. Just hope you don't have a backfire with some guys voting for a person with one post. Nice idea noiz - some rep to my repless buddy
Just make Teelzebub a mod now. Err, because of his contributions to the marketplace, not the fact that he's crazy, or anything... Also remember that his rep says: "Teelzebub should be ELECTED FOR PRESIDENT"
Good idea although I think people should be nominated rather than nominate themselves. Off the top of my head I would nominate Specofdust Goodbytes Pookeyhead Because the majority of there posts seem to be well thought out and well written and all are regular posters and visit the forums daily. If we ever do have nominations I could probably think of more but the 3 above would certainly be on my list.
You clearly didn't read the bit about having 500+ votes to even be considered lol And ta for the rep, I think we both have it all back now so shhhhhhh, don't tell Carrie lol Imagine all the hate he'd spread Compulsary to be in the hate thread if Teel gained power That might work better actually, some of the ones who deserve to be mods probably wouldn't put themselves forward anyway.
Rather than full blown mods (that can quickly ruin a forum if they are they are chosen unwisely) maybe just a few more people with the permissions to work through the new member moderation queue. From the few posts that have mentioned issues with mods, the speed of approving posts appears to be the biggest issue. That task is also obviously taking up a lot of mod time. By outsourcing that task, mods could be more effective. It could be like a bit version of mechanical turk, but with rep rather than pennies.
If a PM system could be set up for post approval that wa't too intrusive then I think giving a group of regular posters the power to approve posts wouldn't be a bad idea. It's the admin tasks that take the time. But in terms of community moderation, Nexxo handles 99% of that himself very well.
Funny man aren't you Tel, and there I was going to say you've grown up since I first joined the forum I think you've proved your worth to the forum in the MP
