A friend is after a graphics card on a £60 budget.

I'm completely at a loss as to what to advise him, which cards have aged the best?

Any suggestions are very appreciated, doesn't matter if it's 2nd hand.

    Cheers

    Nick

I got my GTX460 for £64, so it's something to aim for, still a very capable GPU for that kind of money. Next best would be something from Nvidia's last line, like the GTX285 which can be had at a similar price.

As for AMD, the 4890 isn't quite up to the same standard and the 5850 is way too expensive. :thumb:

You got a good deal, I was gonna say there was a gtx 275 in the market place, very capable card.

Radeon 5770s go for around £50 on ebay, with postage that should come out around the £60 budget.

£64 for a GTX460 sounds like a good deal, if your friend can find something similar he should jump at it.

+1 on the gtx 275. Very, very good card and very capable in this day and age.

I've seen some HD5850's going for that price as well. They hold up pretty well as long as you don't pile on the tessellation.

5850s for £60? I'm dubious about that... they are in £100 territory, just like the GTX470 which they more-or-less match in performance.

    I've seen HD5770's around £55-£65, HD5850's around £85, the GTX460's around £75-£80.

These are used prices last time I looked.

Yeah, best you are going to get for £60 is probably a GTX 275. Maybe if he stretches to £70 you might be able to find a 768 GTX 460 which would be a far far better option.

Do you know what PSU and case he has?
Nothing worse then a £50 bargain ending up costing £100 to use :=)
Although that’s the slippery slope of PC up-grades.

If he has a pretty low spec PC to start with then the 5770 would probably be the best move as it runs pretty cool and is not too hungry when it comes to juice.
